Not only was the scissor Takedown illegal, but then he proceeded to reap AND try to toe hold you 😂😂. All completely illegal. What the absolute fuck?

Yeah, Grappling Industries specifically states the Scissor Takedown as illegal in ALL gi divisions, and only legal for brown and black belts in nogi. Regardless of who initiated the takedown, this is a clear DQ.

In a lot of rulesets the hand on the mat scissor is legal, and it is a lot safer, so maybe dude had some old habits and wasn't just being completely reckless But also he was jumping guard like crazy too so maybe he's just built different lmao

I own a judo dojo. This is an old judo throw, banned from competition long ago. Can be done safely. But the reality is, person receiving the throw can react in the wrong direction similar to someone spazzing out while getting knee barred. Meaning the receiver needs to know the mechanics of the throw equally to the executor. Never going to happen with so many schools banning the technique, or only touching on it once in awhile. Judo realized it’s a terrible cosmetic for the sport to be know for shredding knees for life. The results of an elbow popping is massively different than when homeboys knee explodes. We will see the man with the elbow injury again. Knee guy, probably never again, plus telling his crew that the hobby isn’t worth it.

I don’t know for sure but i have heard that you should drop to your knees. Probably wanna confirm with coach on that. Think going to your knees also is what you want if someone jumps guard. Seems like watching your positioning on your singles is the main thing.
@ericthomas6356
@ericthomas6356 5 ай бұрын
@@dansmithbyu1784 problem isn’t the receivers action on a botched Kani. The thrower usually messes up by swinging in, hanging off the grip. The throwers lower body slams into the side of leg from the swing in. Then tried to finish by torquing the body over the trapped knee. Thrower should be planted on the ground on the free hand, almost like a hand plant in skateboarding, suspending almost all their weight on the ground, legs free to scissor backwards.

Due to the foot being across its a 50/50 position not a reap but the position on the ground at 3:03 is very close to diagonal ashi ( it’s the zlock and lateral kneebar spot for no gi) and it’s illegal due to reap.

I’m personally not a fan of scissor sweeps but this particular case seemed a little safer than the ones I’ve seen since his leg was being held up over the knee. If I’m not mistaken, that leg being too low during the sweep is what causes the injury.
@CarsahhBJJRolls
@CarsahhBJJRolls 5 ай бұрын
It’s more so the jump onto the knee that causes injury. Especially if they don’t post the hand. However it’s just dangerous in general as there’s a lot that can go wrong

I really hate this move since a sambo guy almost broke my leg with it. With that being said, your opponent did it slowly and somehow safely, and only as a counter to your takedown attempt. It is mean and dangerous when it's done offensively all in.

im confused.... the "scissor" takedown looked more like an awkward scramble than him trying to do anything on purpose. I do agree that it was scissoryish though.... the more concerning part was that whole leg lock sequence. It looked like he was reaping, then playing honey hole and going for leg locks... nothing he was doing looked like an attempt ata straight ankle lock.
