Funny thing is, Santa actually exists in the DC universe. Darkseid hates him because he always delivers him coal just to troll him but Darkseid can never seem to catch him. He also exists in the Marvel universe and is a mutant.

I’m still surprised and incredibly pleased that the MCU did not mock Captain America’s Boy Scout masculinity and still managed to make him very cool without being corny. Even more heartening was the fact that he resonated with the masses. So I guess there is still hope for our culture.

Optimistic people are often seen as weak and naive today, but imo they are the strongest of all because they choose to fight an uphill battle of cynicism each and every day and puts the adoration and respect of others aside in order to make the world a better place. Masculine or Feminine, kind hearted, wholesome and optimistic people are the real heroes of the world and are pretty much carrying the rest of us on their shoulders.

And that makes sense not just through philosophical perspective but scientific/physochological perspective too cuz all the fears, doubts and negativity stems from our survival instincts that has evolved from millions of years before our existence and if someone is optimistic and hopeful then that person is basically able to conquer the basis of their entire being. And that is significantly harder than succumbing to desires just like the villains and anti heroes of current media do and people idolize them for that when that is truly what acting like a 'pussy' is. It makes me happy that now internet is starting to idolize characters like Thorfinn and Superman with the recent trends.

Don’t forget about Optimus Prime! In issue number two by Skybound comics, he accidentally “killed” a deer while exploring, and admiring the planet earth. He felt so terrible about it. He didn’t know how fragile they were. He became so heart broken over it. Spike (human character) had to comfort him and tell him that it was okay, and that it was an accident. Optimus Prime is definitely a boy scout. I think it's because outside of the G1 show, we don't get the typical boy scout optimistic attitude. People probably see Prime as a great leader who does what's right while being able and willing to spill some oil, too, if you know what I mean.

Who himself is infinitely more inspirational than Superman being the one who taught that mantra to him(Peter), "Be strong enough to be gentle" despite going through the absolute hell hole that was Vietnam.

The one thing that I appreciate about '97 Cyclops is even though he's a boy scout, he's still VERY flawed. He has anger issues, he's shown to have trust issues, he struggles to bond with his son and he doubts himself and his mission at times. It's refreshing these days to see a hero that tries and tries but when hit with a roadblock they get upset. Cyclops' character shows that it's okay to get mad or have doubts and to rise above it. He's not the perfect role model but he has feelings and isn't afraid to show them. He shows his vulnerability and limits. The poor guy even permanently struggles with his powers as he can't control them and it isn't his fault. So for me, Cyclops is the guy I look to as not just a hero but a human. He has strengths and weaknesses and is not afraid to admit it

Cyclops and alot of the Xmen are so well written i forget they marvel characters. Cyclops is definitely what i feel is the Boy Scout archetype. Wears his heart on his sleeve, says corny shit like "we're the good guys", but still is the leader and head of the team because he makes the tough decisions. He takes it all on himself but still knows hes nothing without his X-men

Cyclops is very flawed in the comics as well almost to the point that he could be excluded from this list. He was originally suppose to be more of a Boy Scout but Marvel demanded Chris Claremont bring Jean Grey back. Which resulted in Cyclop’s character assassination.

@@ladymarianne9680 He can be kind of annoying in the comics. Heaven forbid someone make a joke or have fun. Also the stuff with Madelyn Pryor ruined his character and made him much less of a Boy Scout than originally intended. In the comics, Madelyn Pryor was introduced after Jean Grey died. Claremont made Pryor look like Jean because he has a weird sense of humor. Scott marries Pryor and they have a son, Nathan. Well, Marvel decides they want Jean back so Chris Claremont has to get rid of Pryor. Claremont writes that Pryor, unknowingly is a clone of Jean. Scott finds out that Jean has returned and abandons Pryor and Nathan. Pryor, who was recently abandoned by Cyclops also finds out she is a clone of the woman he left her for, which causes her to go insane. This is the point in his story where Cyclops is still characterized as a Boy Scout but continues to do shady crap. X-Men 97 did a much better job with the Pryor situation than was done in the comics. Not that Claremont should be blamed considering the fact that Beau De Mayo had the privilege of hindsight.

I've always loved Superman. he's my hero, and i tried to learn from his kind, optimistic character, but people in this day and age treat you badly and abuse you if you are like this.... it takes a lot of strength to keep being that way regardless of how you end up being treated, which makes these characters (Superman) the best people i know.

Being raised on superhero media has given me a certain level of optimism but it is hard to retain. I always find Superman boring, but after watching Invincible and the boys, now i understand and respect Superman and it's one of fave characters. It's very easy to lose control, but when you have a power of god and yet you have self control, clear mind, morals and kindness as common sense despite all bad things, then you can be called 'Superman' just for this.

Frank Miller is one of the main contributors of the "Batman is SOOOOO much cooler and can wipe the floor with Superman!" with The Dark Knight Returns, but in TDKR 3, Bruce realizes that this whole time he could win over Superman was only because he always held back. Mind you, this doesn't redeem Miller as a writer or makes TDKR 3 flawless, but it was nice that the guy who fed that mindset a lot corrected the course and gave respect to Superman.

Being edgy makes you a man. A lie I believed for so long. Being angsty and brooding doesn't make you tough or cool. Because depending on who you ask, if you're honestly the type to throw temper tantrums, whine endlessly about all your problems, or hit people at the drop of a hat over small reasons, then that really makes you no different from a bitch or a child. Take Vegeta *(Before* Dragon Ball Super) for example. Much as I love the character, it gets pretty damn laughable at times how people have always considered him more of a man than Goku from the beginning when Vegeta for the longest was this petty, angry, childish man who killed millions for fun, killed his own subordinate just for losing a fight, abused his son, and regularly endangered himself and everyone around him just because he didn't want to let go of his pride. You're really gonna say *That* was more of a man than *Z Goku?* Yeah, their roles have basically swapped now as of the Super era where Vegeta is the more mature and rational one while Goku has mentally regressed to even *worse* than he was as a child, but back during Z, a real man Vegeta was anything but.

The kicker? Even to this day, certain fans STILL try to act like Vegeta's done nothing wrong simply because of the fact that his attitude looked cool. And yeah, I'll admit, Vegeta throughout Namek and early Android was a badass. But..... Upon closer inspection, he did more harm than good as the series went on. Tipping Frieza off about Namek's dragon balls? Check. Letting Cell power up to his perfect form? Check. Rushing in recklessly against Super Perfect Cell, getting injured and causing SSJ2 Gohan to lose half of his strength against the newly powered-up Android? Check. Starting a needless fight with Goku that gave Babadi all the power he needed to revive Buu? Check. Yes, he's helped out a lot, but his negatives outweigh his good. Real men are supposed to do things that further HELP them in reaching their goals, but Vegeta has done nothing but sabotage himself and everyone around him. Actions speak louder than words.

I always identified more with Goku overal. Just his lifestyle alone (he wakes ups trains eats and sleeps) and though i dont have children, he is the character that made it cool to be a dad as much as it influenced many of our generation to pick up the gym lifestyle. He is a bit more childish in Super, though i get it as its actually meant to counter Beerus and not Vegeta as Vegeta is also way more passive towards Beerus and less arrogant overal. More so comparable to Piccolo. But Goku is just as irresponsible as Vegeta, he literally kept Vegeta alive after the battle on Earth. In my opinion Super is very misunderstood, the BOG Z movie was more slice of live and comedy oriented and it was meant to correct the damage of the DB evolution live action movie. But it was such a succes they made RoF afterwards and than decided to create a new series. DBS is basically a spin off of the last 2 movies that grew into its own as Toriyama was involving himself more. And Super Goku is more so based on the BOG movie, than he is on the overal series and they create dynamics per episode to have him act as in that movie.

I feel like some points made about cyclops can easily apply to Nightwing as well. Similar to both batman and cyclops, Nightwing also had a tragic past which led him to becoming a crime fighter and being batman's sidekick anyone would easily assume he would end up as an edgy superhero. Yet when he became Nightwing, he looked up to and took on the traits of superman and became an optimistic superhero. Nightwing genuinely seems like he's DC's best hero because regardless of how he basically grew up where everyone and everything around him was "edgy", he stayed optimistic and outgoing. There's a reason why many heroes look up to him and consider him a better leader than batman.

There’s a reason Superman goes by the name. He’s a superior man to many in pretty much every way regardless of wether or not he acts like it. Yes, he’s the strongest, most powerful man in any room more often than he isn’t but he’s also loyal, kind, compassionate, a protector, pretty much as close to being morally pure as it’s even possible to be. He’s the guy you want to follow not only because of his power, but because by his actions, morals and beliefs, he’s actually worthy of being followed. Same with Captain America.

I feel like before being an edgy character, Robin also represent the boy scout leader to the Teen Titans in the original comic. He's strangely a colorful character who's partnered with a symbol of fear. I think Robin works best to be the balance and support to Batman's trauma instead of just "Kid Dark Knight". But again, he's meant to be a kid appeal and I guess modern kid's more appealed with slightly a darker version of him.

I think you need to understand that the reason the current Robin is different from the og Robin is because he is a completely different character,robin is mantle that has been passed down from different characters,the og robin does still exist and is still an optimistic boy scout character he just goes by a different name now (Nightwing) also I recommend looking into the Grant Morrison Batman and Robin series the first one the current robin appeared in because in that series Nightwing had become Batman after Bruce "died" so it felt like Batman and Robin had a sort of role/personality reverse were now Batman was the optimist and Robin was the darker one and they're dynamic was just really great,I feel like it was a mistake when they brought Bruce back to be Batman again because it did disturb the balance as they are really similar as characters

Snyder cut Superman was a return to a more hopeful and traditional version of the character. Zack purposely wrote a character arc for Henry's superman where he wouldn't start off being the happy and confident incarnation of the hero, but over the course of several films would eventually transform into it. BvS was essentially Superman in his darkest hour while in the Snyder cut he was reborn and truly found his stride especially when he fought Stephenwolfe.

@ohscarleon 100%! Loved reading your post! I feel like a lot of people intentionally ignore the broader picture because they just didn't like Zack Snyder and his overall vision for the DCEU. I disagree wholeheartedly with the notion in this video that Henry's Superman wasn't a boyscout. He absolutely was! He had a very Christlike calm about him, which is as good as it gets! Snyder stated he wanted Superman to be reminiscent of Jesus Christ (who is the biggest boy scout of all time), and it is noted in the New Testament quite often that throughout his earthly ministry, Jesus was often sad and needed time alone. There were plenty of moments where Cavil smiled or had a good chuckle or two. Being happy/hopeful doesn't necessarily require a big fake smile 100% of the time. And in the real world... no one is always positive. We cant be lol! We all have doubts as well as fears. For me it is beyond admirable that Kal is able to push it aside and keeps on keeping on even unto death, which is a major testament to his goodness and his drive to do what's right. My favorite moment in Man of Steel is when he is being crushed by the world engine, and when all seems lost and the very world is pushing him down, he looks up with a determined expression, and flies into the jaws of defeat and snatches an impossible victory. That is everything Superman has represented over the last 80 or so years, and just because he isn't wearing bright blue tights with red underwear, and not smiling all the time shouldn't disqualify him from the beacon of hope conversation. Was it a different approach? Absolutely! But the basic principles that make Superman who he is were very easily identified throughout the series (especially in Zack Snyder's Justice Lague) where everything finally comes full circle.

'A good person' will always be the most masculine thing a man can be. Superman will always be my favorite superhero. He is what a superhero should be. He is a good person to everyone and takes the time to help, even if it is as small as walking someone across the street or getting a little girls cat down from a tree. My favorite line from the first movie might be his response to Lois asking him,'Who are you? He says: 'A friend.' And he really is a friend.

Growing up, I always preferred characters that had the rogue and edgy persona, and even to this day, I still do. However, these days I look back to heroes like these and have learned to appreciate them more, especially Cyclops. Ever since X-Men 97 debuted, I had completely forgotten how much of a better character Cyclops was than how they portrayed him in the movies, I was never a big fan of him as a kid but I'm more grateful for his character now after being reminded of how much of a bigger role he always had within the original series.

Many of what you mentioned summed up why I've always been a fan of the boy/girl scout archetype. And I do love characters like Superman or Captain America. Just doing things because its the right thing to do. Not because they're seeking validation or for an ulterior motive. They've got nothing to prove. Just a humble and optimistic demeanour. I also like it when they have storylines which question their archetype and showcase that they can have frustrations with how shitty the world can be. But still try to rise above it. Its why Superman Vs The Elite is one of my all-time favourites.

Recently my environment made me doubt that the qualities they possess are possible to hold in the real world. Honestly I feel like the actual realistic answer to "what would a normal person who was raised right do if they had the powers and abilities of Superman" *is* "use it to help as many people as they can". Clark Kent *is* realistic, it's just popular for cynics to confuse themselves with realists (and viewing fundamental decency and human goodness as "childish" and "unrealistic" is a sign of immaturity. I feel like people like that never really grew out of being teenagers). Hell, some versions of Superman take it even farther - even someone like Lex Luthor becomes a good person when he's given Superman's powers and starts to realize what it's like to live Superman's life.

Many pop culture stories are about an exemplary hero and a rough and/or sneaky one having to cooperate despite their differences. Superman and Batman, Luke Skywalker and Yan Solo, Captain America and Iron man, Thor and Loki etc... There is also female duo like Katara and Toff, or mixed ones like Jim Raynor and Sarah Kerrigan based on the same trope. The first hero is able to build long term alliances based on trust while the second intervene when short time efficiency is needed.

In general, this trope is best applied when the character in question has flaws and limitations but are depicted as having the humility to accept them and the courage to overcome them just as they would other obstacles they are pitted against. In essence, the ideal conflict for “boy scout” is to not allow themselves or their values to be changed by situations that would see them become as corrupted as either their enemies or even some of their allies. 2:36, In terms of more modern takes on the traditionally virtuous and optimistic Superman, Superman And Lois and My Adventures With Superman return to Clark’s routes as a far brighter character, one that emphasizes hope, love, compassion and generosity, but also one backs up with the will, discipline and courage to fight for his world and the values he stands for. But even with these flaws, he is still a capable leader, still able to coordinate his team and various other efforts to ensure the protection of his kind.

To be Fair, Henry Cavill's Superman was picking up from very Dark Storylines, eventually becoming the Superman we all Love! He, the Actor, actually really Loves what Superman stands for & enjoyed everytime he was finally able to portray him how he truly is! He even became a Fan & to this day roots for the NFL Team closest to Smallville, USA (Inspired from) IMHO He was great when The Trinity finally Formed & in ZSJL!

I would argue that Scott has never been a boy scout, despite getting called that a lot in and out of universe, but more of a well-meaning martinet. His trauma and anxieties all revolve around situations outside his control, abandonment, and being responsible for other people's lives, so he craves rules, structure, plans for every situation, and has real trouble letting his guard down. Hence why he ends up in relationships with telepaths; they're the only ones who can see what's really going on in his head.

Nowadays no one really knows what masculinity really is anymore. Having all degrade it, moch it to a point just being a man is seen as horrific. That BS needs to end now! We are spiraling out of control and things are going to get worse but this video I watch could possibly a small light of hope. This can show people what it means to be masculine, a man. Someone who takes on life's challenges at full strength. Never giving up and the get down and pushing through even if it's difficult even it's overwhelming sometimes. Also being composed in said life challenges yet being able to help and care for ones around us.

Superman was basically a god living among men. A Christ-like one. Him taking time out of his day to take a cat down out of the tree and giving it to the little girl that showed awe in presence of the divine was an incredibly touching scene

I genuinely believe that the Tyler Hoechlin version is the perfect modern portrayal of Superman. He just captured Superman's kindness and heart for me. I was someone who used to think Supes was lame but his version made me a legit fan of the character for some reason

Excellent breakdowns! I LOVE Christopher Reeve's Superman - and I contend the first film is one of the few perfect pictures made. Cap has always been a great character, despite the attempts over the last decade or so to drag him down into the muck of many of the less idealistic heroes. I've been a fan of the X-men since the mid-80s, and while I generally respect Cyclops (Madeline Pryor?), he's never been a favorite of mine. In fact, I think Alex is the superior Summers brother. But I do agree that his general demeanor is effectively on equal footing with Supes and Cap. Also, I had never thought about the fact these guys wear blue in their most iconic outfits. Hmm.

Superman and Captain America are not naïve. They are fully aware of the importance of the image they project. They'd never let loose like Cyclops did in that interview, even if they felt that way in the moment, because it would be doing a disservice. Superman understands the societal importance of being trusted and not feared. Zack Snyder does not.

I think superman vs the elite makes a pretty good point as to why someone like superman is needed. He represents an unrelenting good that everyone can look up to no matter where your from that still shows how to be humble.
