Some pretty loud acts nowadays… I agree though, they def didn’t have the same regulations on safe volume levels back then, and they still had to record part of their second album outside

Saw them perform in Las Vegas at the Ice Palace in 1968 or 69. They were known as the loudest band around and they kept blowing out the circuit breaker at the Ice Palace.

The same thing happened when I saw them at a club in Long Beach (Ca.) in the early 80's. After sitting through three or four horrible bands, Blue cheer played for about a half and hour before things blew up on them and they let us out onto the street at about 2 am.

Blue Cheer's one hit wonder! Imagine my surprise when my husband and I found out that it was actually a cover from a late 50's singer! Can't remember who though! We love your channel Harri! When you react, we're right there listening to your critique! And yes it does give you a Hendrix vibe!!

Blue Cheer was great LSD, Augustus Stanley Owsley I bought the album when it was released. "Blue Cheer" was the name of a variety of LSD made by chemist and Grateful Dead patron Owsley Stanley and the band was probably named after that, although the name existed earlier, as the name of a laundry detergent after which the LSD variety itself was named.

Blue Cheer played so loud they said the air turned to cottage cheese. Original is a rockabilly song by Eddie Cochran, who was killed in a taxi crash at 21. Jimi Hendrix did this song in concert, no studio version, badly-recorded live version on KZbin.

"Heavy", indeed. When they were on American bandstand The host Dick Clark, of course, tried to interview them after their performance & all he could get out of them was that their music was "heavy".

AHA!!! My brother is a guitar player, and around 1970, he bought the Marshall amp top that this band's guitar player used on tour. It was modified and it was loud.

Harri, The Who version you did was early on in their career - in 1969 they released 'Tommy', 1970 'Live at Leeds', a heavy/progressive rock banger - then in 1971, the classic 'Who's Next', becoming the greatest live band in the world for a time. You must react to their later version of 'Summmertime Blues' on uTube, recorded live at the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970 - then see the difference!

A lot of other musicians from the same era hated Blue Cheer for their crude and loud approach to music. It must have been a big chock to hear them in1967-68.

Hi Man, I was 15 in ‘68 when I heard this, been a Blue Cheer fan ever since. Enjoyed your reaction so have subscribed to see what else ya got! 🤗 Edit: their first two albums were “heavy” then they went off in a few different directions in the ensuing years. Some terrific songs along the way. ‘Young Lions in Paradise’ is a ripper.

Hi, OK, if you like a heavier version of this song The Who ,Live at Leeds is the one. A real choice for Blue Cheer is Satisfaction ( the Rolling Stones song ). The type of music you're looking for in this case is acid rock.

To add a little perspective...At one time in the late 60's there was a type of acid, LSD, known as Blue Cheer. Which Blue Cheer came first? Don't know. Oh yeah...I had this album on vinyl, and ripped it to mp3.

Original came from the Laundry detergent but Owsley had product named "Blue Cheer". The band called themselves BC after Owsley's product. Owsley also helped the band out a lot early on in their career.

Heavy, you bet. An inspirational progenitor of heavy metal? Yes indeed. Documentarians sometimes use the overdriven guitar riff in the verses that sets this version apart to give their videos a 1960's feel. The Hendrix version, surprisingly, sounds more like The Who version than this version. But like Dave Lehnen said, the recording quality is horrible. "Peace Of Mind" is another worthy song from Blue Cheer. And if you're interested in that sort of heavy sound from the late 60's/early 70's, check out Iron Butterfly "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida", Vanilla Fudge "You Keep Me Hangin' On", The Chambers Brothers "Time Has Come Today", Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac "The Green Manalishi", Harry Nilsson "Jump into the Fire", The Stooges "Down On The Street", MC5 "Kick Out The Jams" among others.

That wasn't a fair comparison. The Who's version needs to be from 'Live at Leeds' to compete. This one, using the same studio cut, on German tv is the best for seeing what the band looked like playing it. And, yes, this is the beginning of the "heavy metal" sound, although they were not a metal band.

Yuck! So completely different from the original song! It sounds dark instead of bright and fun.. Have you heard the actual original? Bobby Vee did it. Just a suggestion that you might want to hear it as it had been originally. And it was a top song when it first came out.
