READ THIS: If you seriously think you can judge whether a line was dirty or clean through a handheld microphone meant for recording the judges voice, you’re crazy. This recording definitely wasn’t meant to have quality audio. The cleanliness and rhythmic accuracy “dirt” you’re hearing is coming from the fact that this was recorded on a small portable mic for the judges voice. Please stop criticizing this line that worked insanely hard for this moment. While I DO disagree with Jeff Prosperrie that this should receive a perfect achievement score (seeing as he called them out once or twice for a few tiny blips in cleanliness), I doubt that many of you will come close to achieving a similar level of performance and musical execution. If you really want to pick out the dirt so badly, go watch good 60 FPS HD lot videos... good luck finding much there.

i definitely think saying the line "this line is nonetheless cleaner and more talented than 99% of you will ever be." is kinda a shitty thing to say. as somebody who was studying education, the last thing you want to do is tell people they will never be something. don't do that. encourage them to improve and become better so that they can become this. overall though, i agree. you shouldn't judge from a judges tape. its also not a fans place to judge the core. the judge's score is absolute and is the only thing that matters

@officialnovadrome4 жыл бұрын
rhythm song itself isn't incredibly hard, and when they practice for 12 hours a day or more for a month and then go on tour while still playing the same passage over and over, they should at least be able to play most of it. they still missed many more notes than they should have, and somehow got a 10 in achievement. there were two spots on vanguards tape where he called out the pit for barely noticeable things, yet he didnt even mention the notes at the beginning of this performance. prosperie is biased towards BD, its not just this year.

As one who generally speaking enjoyed Bloo better, I find it sad people are still mad at the scores. Was I disappointed initially? Sure, because I was looking forward to see an encore run by Bloo, but that just didn’t happen, and both shows are enjoyable to listen to and watch, so the scores aren’t a big deal. Two fantastic shows amongst many that occurred in the 2019 season, and it was a great year for drum corps. I’m a brass player, but it’s cool to hear tapes even if I don’t understand most of the terms. Hopefully 2021 even happens!

I guess I'm super late to the party, but damn, this comment section is depressing. The fact that people care this much about scoring and other people's opinions on an amazing show among several other amazing shows really shows a lack of maturity that I absolutely didnt expect from the DCI community. To see legends like Everett Kim and Olander arguing with fans in a youtube comment section is really just disappointing. I don't know if the uploader was really even criticizing Prosperie's evaluation, but people seem to be attacking him regardless. I don't think BD deserved a 10 either- does it matter? No one's denying that their percussion was absolutely magnificent. Stop nitpicking and stop overreacting to people nitpicking.

Jesus Christ if anyone tries to come after the pit in the beginning!!! Literally and I mean this in the nicest way, if you have not taken music theory or have composed a piece then it shouldn’t bother you. From the beginning of their season to the end they played the same thing. Do you really think the staff would all those mess ups for an entire season. If that’s how the book was composed then that’s how it was composed.
@shadowkille8r994 жыл бұрын
Yeah I was also thinking that, but listening to some other recordings, it sounds different. But again, it just doesn't seem like it could sound like this, and plus we don't know where this tape was from. I would like to add I've heard them make mistakes, particularly with this video here kzbin.info/www/bejne/oYuyZGN3mtqooKs with time stamp at 36:53 When I listened to that video above, it seemed like there was one person who was making errors, so it leads me to wonder if there was just someone who pooped themselves and made mistakes or something. Then again this tape is sketchy af, and the audio quality seems like it is distorted in general.
@dariusparker26854 жыл бұрын
Shadowkille8r yeah. I honestly do agree. When most groups look over their performance, they’ll watch it from a video which has better quality. Tapes aren’t meant to be taken seriously audio wise and is only meant to be given to groups as a critique. Plus I don’t expect a $20 recorder/tape to be able to catch everything that I’m hearing let alone playing them with a good quality.

I think it’s fair to say that this score is what made the difference between the blue devils and bluecoats final scores. I think the reason a lot of people get upset with it is that even if you’ve never heard the shows you can look at the scores from prelims and semis and this just doesn’t line up. I’m not gonna pretend to be a professional tick catcher and it’s impossible to really tell through this kind of recording but I’ve seen both groups live towards the end of the season and I know members of the batterie from Scv bloo and bd who all said they didn’t agree with the percussion rankings finals night. I honestly love all three shows and listen to all three drum lines all the time but it just feels weird to look at the scores and see that bd and bloo were so close to eachother and all of the sudden they beat bloo and scv in drums after not really doing that the whole season. It’s hard to argue bias of a single judge and honestly who would want to. I don’t want to speak Ill of a person I’ve never met and who loves this activity and is deeply involved with it on many levels. My issue is more with the whole judging system and the fact that you can look at one score that clearly is an outlier compared to all of the other shows both finals week and the week or two leading up to finals and without that score they weren’t going to win. It’s ignorant to say that dci scoring isn’t political and it’s honestly silly that whenever someone tries to talk about it they are just thrown out as biased against a particular corps.

I understand everything you are saying. If you want to really get into it, how did Crown finish 4th? However, I would never question Prosperie. He is more than qualified. However, back in the day, you could win your first show on finals night. In my humble opinion, BD had a better night.

Danny Hale Sorry if I’m late. I do agree that SCV does has a more complex book under their percussion, blue devils was a lot cleaner. You can give a judge the hardest book but if it’s not clean then theirs no achievement at all. Its kinda like color guard in a sense. You can make all the choreo hard, but is the whole ensemble together? Is there good timing? And can everyone within the ensemble achieve what’s given to them? If not then there’s no point in having it at all.

This decision shouldn't be taken lightly, IMO any amount of uncleanliness should result in anything less than a Ten. Prosperie missed a lot of dirt, so no ten. Should be objective, which is why people are upset.
@Ridebmx345214 жыл бұрын
Dan Joyce Yo brother! the numbers exist to show separation between ensembles. 10.0 doesn’t mean perfect. it means that the group that won the sub-caption was that much more proficient than the other group. Numbers management can be difficult when the bar is set quite high by other ensembles. There were plenty of strong percussion ensembles this season. Hope you’re well. -Josh
@danjoyce69714 жыл бұрын
@@Ridebmx34521 that's at interesting take on it, but I think I have to disagree with that Method of judging. no group should be pushed to "perfection" just because they are Comparitively better. i think labeling something as a perfect 10/10 when it is not devalues the word perfect and the value of a perfect score going forward.
@everettkim7064 жыл бұрын
Dan Joyce Dan Joyce I get what you’re saying, but perfect scores in sub captions happen all the time. It is not a rare occurrence. Your opinion of 10/10 scores devaluing the definition of perfect is valid, but it’s very interesting how it only becomes an issue to people when the corps they don’t like achieves it. The fact is, nothing in drum corps is ever perfect. It can always be better. But that’s really not the point of the comment. While a drum tape may be very enjoyable for your personal critique, it’s not meant for anyone to hear. There’s a reason dci doesn’t post the tapes themselves. Not even the members get to hear them unless the staff allows it. This tape was leaked by someone. Furthermore, this tape was posted by this account under a fake name, and if you look at this person’s channel there are only two drum tapes. Why don’t you go ahead and read the descriptions this person writes for both the videos and tell me again there’s “no salt coming from the content provider”. At the end of the day whether it’s constructive, enjoyable or whatever you want to call it, it’s not there right to post that’s the end of the story. 🤷🏻♂️
