He NAILED that solo up the octave at every California show just so you know.. I'm a SCV alum and believe me I was hurting for him during that Finals performance.

I wish BD (my alum) would go back to this type of music....Drum Corps needs it so bad.....I miss it...

Awesome show...1989 just had so much class to it, similar to 88. I wish they would just punch us in the face again with a good old-fashioned jazz show like this.

Ahhh, I remember this. The rain started pouring down in the middle of the closer and everyone being so hyped while it rained. GOOD TIMES!!!

I actually really like how he played it down. It just sounds sweeter, and the shake gets me. Idk really unfortunate that finals performance. Such a sweet ballad.

This gives me hope that BD can once again return to their style from back in the day :')

I marched Bones '11... This show was secretly my hype! I LOVE THIS SOLO. He's a boss. Go Blue Devils! Good luck on your 2012 season!

I love this arrangement! Beautiful! Nice to finally hear a recording of what it was supposed to sound like. I never heard it live. Just the finals recording. Still, even with the mistake, it's been one of my favorite corps arrangements for years!

I have to agree. I marched in BD in 1988 and I've loved this piece ever since I heard them play it in 1989. The last few times I've been to a DCI show, I keep wondering what this stuff is they're playing these days. I think they sacrificed good music for visual effects.

Some of the more recent stuff they’ve done is good as well, natural woman in 2018 was very good, and although not Jazz, their ballads in 16 and 17 were incredible

As a new DCI fan (and hopeful marcher), I think the type of music has definitely changed, but not for the better nor worse. Although, part of me wishes shows like these were also around.

This and 'Dindi' were my two fave BD ballads. 'Man Loves a Woman' a close third. Great share!

Breathtaking viz/mus ensemble. The rotating wedge and the CG expansion at the climax of this production. Possibly best ballad ever from a design standpoint. some squabling over whether the solo 8vb was 'saving his chops' If he was in fact playing 8vb during run-throughs that may have contributed to the infamous flub. Im all for 'savin it' but you gotta practice the way you perform. If he was @ all worried he should stayed 8vb under the lights. selfdoubt evident if he's 8vb 4 last run.

Great music. Unfortunately i dont think we'll ever hear music like this from drum corps again. Drum corps is not like that it used to be. The precision and the finale are just a couple of things that i personally miss. I could be wrong. They say everything comes full circle eventually. What about the regional shows (DCM, DCE, etc...)
@nathanielblanco12583 жыл бұрын
say what you want about how modern shows aren't as loud, aren't as classical, aren't as engaging, or whatever... but precision? the talent pool in dci has reached a freakish level in the decades since 89, if they aren't anything else they are at least insanely technical and precise

It's funny, everyone says that the reason why he fucked up the solo at finals was because he was high as hell, but I think this right here was the reason... He kept practicing an octave lower than what he was supposed to do. If you don't regularly practice that high up then of course you're bound to mess up the solo at some point. So the problem was he didn't practice

Great chart! Everyone feels the same way and stated it for me. I marched Star in '89 and was sitting in the side two end zone seats when "it" happened. If the soloist had kept it down an octave at finals, it would have been just as effective
@chasemanhart8 жыл бұрын
Jefri Payne what do you mean "it" happned
@jus1gear5 жыл бұрын
If he practiced it up an octave that would have helped. Every video shows him rehearsing down the octave. I was in this soprano line, he did not always nail it. I remember being in shows praying he got it right. Egos unchecked failed to do something about this problem.
