Love blue flowers. I have planted blue poppies from seed and they grew the first year but the seeds and plants did not the second year. I even bought a small plant at the nursery and it did not do well. My other poppies do great. I think it is a delicate plant like the california poppy. Both seem to be hit or miss. Thanks for your info. I now have another list for shopping. I hope the garden centers are able to open up this year. Hope you have a nice day with your loving family.

I grow blue poppy in Sweden. Germination is fairly straigthforward from my experience. Make sure to use peat in your sowing mix and sprinkle the seeds on top without pressing them into the soil, but instead make sure they have good contact with the soil by giving them a spray with a spray bottle. Keep them at about 17-18 degrees Celsius untill they germinate. Once germination has started, keep them at the same temperature during the day but much lower at night (preferable under 10C like a refrigerator). When planting them in your garden, they want a spot that is always a little moist but never soaking wet and be aware they dry out quickly. Part shade is preferred as they do not really like the hot mid day sun. Love your channel btw. Keep up the good work and good luck with the new garden!

Thank you Laura, I love splashes if blue in my mostly purple and yellow flowering garden. Especially lobelia, which survives as a short lived perennial in our mild winters here in Melbourne’s west if given a little extra care and shade in the hotter months. Thus, I always grow them in pots. I also love Ceanothus blue pacific. Short flowering season but stunning and thrives in our alkaline soil. Also, Felicia amelloides, looks delicate but is quite tough and long flowering. Look forward to all your videos!

Hi Laura, from frozen San Antonio Texas bluebonnets are a wild flower and do not need hardly any watering during blooming even before that. Their seeds naturally spread when the pods dry out and they pop and spread on top of the soil. Germination takes place Throughout the summer and fall. In late Winter and early Spring they grow to Bloom in Spring. They do not spread like wildfire so they are very manageable. They look gorgeous with Indian paintbrush here in Texas. I hope this helps.

Bluebonnets are prolific here in Texas. Large drifts fill the medians of many roadways where people enjoy having pictures taken. I have them in my garden. LOVE them. They show off every spring and I have even seen them bloom again in fall. Wildseed Farm in Fredericksburg, TX carries the seed by the pound in good years. They self seed and spread nicely throughout the garden. They seem to like tucking themselves against stones and other hard structures.

Great list! I would add: Virginia Bluebells (spring bulb), Allium azureum (summer bulb), 'Rozanne' cranesbill geranium, chaste tree (actually a vitex shrub), and 'Blue Muffin' arrowhead viburnum (for its ornamental blue berries in the fall. I can highly recommend Delphinium 'Blue Butterfly' for its blue colour, even though it's not a reliable perennial for me in Zone 6. Worth growing anyway, the flowers look like vivid blue wizard hats!

Delphiniums are my favorite, too, (tied for 1st place with hydrangea), but I also have trouble with delphiniums here in hot, humid VA (zone7). I think last season was my 6th attempt using 3 plants, which actually survived the summer. Now in Spring, I see that 2 of them are coming back, which is a first for me, and one is not. I don't think they like humidity. I have tried them in different spots around my gardens with zero success in them coming back in Spring--until this year. I put them in a part sun location and that seemed to help. Fingers crossed that they don't perish this summer. On the other hand, I have the most gorgeous, huge, blue hydrangeas that are no problem at all. I don't do anything but water them and they're fabulous!

Thank you! I love blue flowers, and would love to be able to grow delphiniums . I live in the greater Vancouver area (BC), so just north of you? I rescued a hydrangea that was given in small pot to a friend when she was sick. She was going to throw it out, because it was so sad and dried up. I always believe in another chance, so took it home and planted it. It is now so big and healthy! It will bloom this year for the first time. I do have to watch because in a townhouse the gardeners tend to kill things. I've lost my 3rd Hosta this year...

I am currently growing Himalayan Blue Poppies from seed. They have sprouted -- took about 12 days -- I expected them to take longer. They are the tiniest of sprouts -- maybe an 1/8th of an inch tall on day 19. I'm excited to see if they make it. I have no trouble growing pansy from seed either, both purchased seed and hand gathered seed yet, I seem to have absolutely no luck germinating Delphinium! I had just 2 seeds mature into plants last year from a full packet of seeds, one of which the slugs made a meal of. This year, still no luck. Not sure what the trick is to them but I will persevere! LOL That's the fun of gardening, isn't it? the challenge!
