Hi Laura I just moved from Wisconsin to Arkansas last june. I'm learning everything all over again because soil grow zone seasons and everything is so different. I planted Dianthus and it has never died back. It has bloomed on warm days and has closed buds when it's cold like today 28 degrees f. It was always 1 of the first things to come to life back in Wi. Yah red......the best foil for red is green, dark green, preferably up a tree like Tropaeolum speciosum. Red doesn't mingle with much except a lovely dark dark saturated cool viloet purple (not the warmer red toned purples) can look fabulously like shot silk, some of the newer Suprbena's or Verbenas are good in this combo. Wish Laura, yes you lived in Southern Florida because I just love your honesty and enthuisiasm and finding good new lovely flowers is rather tricky down near Cuba, even just half way there. Garden centres are very prone to selling stuff that wont thrive in our zone in season, they look fabulous and are soooooo enticing but one rain and they're gone to fungal heaven for good. So yah please move to Miami Florida, branch out lol

Great video with wonderful plants. Apparently PW doesn't have a preferred provider in Seattle, so many are not available here. I see more common PW plants at Lowes. How do you get them in Eastern, OR? Also, I have the same problem with deadheading dianthus. I want the dead ones out and keep the ones still blooming. The only way I have found is to do it carefully bloom by bloom.
@ProvenWinnersYouTube3 жыл бұрын
Good morning Tim. Please know that we do not have ANY preferred provider of our plants. All independent garden centers and box store managers decide which plants, and how many to order in from their local greenhouses. We do not. Some carry more of our varieties, while other prefer different genetics. To find retailers in your store that do carry our plants visit our website and click on the Find a Retailer tab. With regard to the dianthus, unfortunately the one bloom at a time approach is best.
@timgillman3 жыл бұрын
@@ProvenWinnersKZbin Thanks for the reply. I was using the links to the website and when I enter my zip code I get the message: "We couldn't find any preferred sponsored retailers with this plant in stock." In some cases it looks like it can be ordered through the mail, but with the USPS backlogs, I am concerned that they would not arrive in good shape. I love some of these new perennials, and I have been happy with all of the Proven Winners plants I have bought over the years.

@ProvenWinnersYouTube3 жыл бұрын
The best thing for rabbits is Plantskydd spray. It does smell, it does discolor the plants, but if you spray it at each sign of new growth the bunnies will stay away. FYI, it is an organic product, and personally I have found the spray is much more effective than the granules.

My zone is 9a and live in the hot Central Valley, CA (Visalia, CA) where it gets 105-110 F in the summer. @ProvenWinnersYouTube3 жыл бұрын
No, we do not have a video on perennials, only one on shrubs for landscapes. Plantskydd spray is incredibly effective, find out more by searching for the company's page online. Also, here is a list of the perennials we do consider deer resistant and are sized for containers--typically these are plants that are fragrant, very low to the ground, or tickle the deer's noses, such as a perennial grass. www.provenwinners.com/plants/search/advanced?duration=Perennial&deer-resistant=1&uses[0]=Container

I have a creek running through my property and am constantly fighting the weeds coming up the sides of it. Do you have any suggestions of a perennial ground cover that would be vibrant in color and also be able to overtake the weeds?
@ProvenWinnersYouTube3 жыл бұрын
It is better to remove the weeds or treat them somehow vs. trying to cover them with another type of plant. Some weeds are incredibly vigorous and can power through nearly everything. Take a picture of the weed to your local garden center to see what they recommend, they will be familiar with the weed that is invading your property.

@ProvenWinnersYouTube3 жыл бұрын
The links above will take you to the page on our website filled with information about that one plant, and also indicates if it is available for sale on the right hand side of that page. Best to plant early in fall and water well until the ground freezes over. Don't expect much from a perennial the first few years, the growth at this time is focused on the root system, building a strong base for a beautiful perennial in future years. Thanks for watching!

Not that we know of...for a plant to be deer resistant it is typical fragrant, very low to the ground or tickles their nose like an ornamental grass would. I wish we had better news. But Plantskydd spray is amazing, and it keeps the rabbits away too! Spray at the sign of new growth...

Hi Linda, we recommend Plantskydd spray to many! Personally I have had amazing results with this, keep in mind the spray worked better for me than the granules. It is organic, and does discolor the plant, but that does go away. This is a spray that changes the flavor of the plant, it is not topical, which means you do not have to worry about it washing off like others. Spray at the sign of any new growth. Learn more here, and if you do not see it at local retailers you can buy via this site or other large online retailers, www.plantskydd.com/
