Great video! I follow the original video a year ago but gave up on Deepstack because the i5-7400/AI-Tool setup can only process an image every 800-1000ms. When several cameras are active, the CPU jumps to 100% and the stock cooler transforms into a jet engine. Now that Blue Iris and Deepstack both updated their software, I've managed to get the GPU version running on my 1070. The processing time came down to 20-35ms and the GPU utilization is less than 1% even when processing several cameras per second.

7:07 if you have large files, note that uploading to a NAS can impact the system and streaming if using the same NIC; for this reason a USB drive would be a good solution, or a more advanced option is to install a 2nd Network card and dedicate a subnet to one on your NAS (much easier to setup 2nd IPs on a NAS these days). Again, external large HDDs are the better route for most people - and they're relatively inexpensive (often less expensive than buying the same size/type HDD that is inside them)

I used your older video to setup up my Blue Iris instance (which was great, thanks!), and I could never really figure out why you were using software motion detection. Any ONVIF compatible camera will have motion detection on camera chip and ONVIF will report it to Blue Iris. As long as you turn on "Camera's digital input or motion alarm" on the "Trigger" tab of the camera config, BI will be notified when camera detects motion and can trigger AI or MQTT events, or whatever else you want. Biggest advantage of doing that is that since motion is detected on the camera itself, BI doesn't need to decode the stream at all, and can write it to the disk directly (as long as you don't do overlays). Which means you can run it on any type of processor, even if it doesn't have hardware decoding. For example, I'm running 4 2k cameras with 2 substreams each on a very very old 2-nd generation I7. My CPU usage is at 2%, unless I'm actually watching a clip (constant recording on 480p substream and NodeRed triggered recording on 2k substream).

If using the small form factor version, the GPU can only fit in the 4x PCIe slot. Also the sata power splitter link is wrong. Needs to be specificallly a 6 pin power to sata connectors. All that being said, if size isn’t a huge concern. The 7040 mini tower with the i7, 512 NVMe, 2 TB HDD + GTX 1650 ends up being a slightly better computer for the price. TL;DR update your links a bit so the new folks can avoid returns like myself. Keep up the great videos!

I thought I would write this as a new comment instead of the old one as this is something I found during more recent testing, and also I missed some silly things. Firstly: Pre-trigger buffer only currently works when the "When Triggered" option is selected according to the Blue Iris Manual. This is likely why it didn't appear to work when Continuous + Alerts was selected. Secondly: The issues with Reolink are because the iFrame is dynamic on Reolink. The Keyframe can drop down to 0.1 sometimes at night. The Keyframe is critical when recording as Blue Iris only starts the MainStream recording at a keyframe point. That is why it takes a second to switch from sub to main, and why Reolinks take longer to switch. Thridly: Blue Iris does not use direct to disc recording in Evaluation mode. This will skew the results of the Celeron a little. I totally forgot that when I made my last comment. Just some additional stuff I found in more recent testing and this likely wont change so the Reolinks will always be problematic in that regard. I wouldn't recommend people to use Reolink with Blue Iris. Reolink is great with it's own NVR that can handle things, but not great with NVR's that use keyframe as a reference point for recording, such as Blue Iris
@TheHookUp3 жыл бұрын
Hey Brendan, I did plenty of testing on the Celeron not in evaluation mode (switching my license from one computer to another). Same issues either way, so that wasn't the issue. I'm VERY skeptical of the reolink argument. I've seen it time and time again, but the truth is that if you set a hikvision or dahua to the same interval it will perform just fine (other than taking a split second longer to switch from sub to main). I believe the issue with the Reolink RLC810A is two fold: 1) The main stream is h265 and sub is h264 which causes issues for the way BI processes the feeds. 2) I believe reolink's h265 codec doesn't conform completely to the standard and as a result there are some failed attempts to decode it. Sometimes this results in BI switching to software decoding, other times it just stops the stream completely. I agree that the RLC810A isn't the best choice for blue iris right now (and I've updated the descriptions of all of my videos to reflect that), but their sub 8mp cameras are still great and I've had no problems using them with BI for years now.

@@TheHookUp The Blue Iris Manual does have very specific recommendations when using Direct to Disc and iFrame rate. I actually did notice that even my Dahua was slower switching when I had the keyframe lower. Have you tried having the Substream and Main at different keyframes on the Hikvision or Dahua? That is one thing I didn't do . I set both the same, so I haven't checked if they are different. Also, I have found multiple reports that if the stream is H265 on main and H264 on sub it causes issues. Unfortunately we can't select this on the Reolinks. I did have HUGE argument with Fenderman on IPCAMTALK regarding the iFrame issue and he deleted it because he couldn't answer why iFrame was classed as the biggest issue. I personally do not believe iFrame is the biggest issue with Reolink compatibility Edit: I found the issue with CPU pegging on detection. It was directly related to the Reolink using H264 on sub and H265 on main. I removed the Reolink 4K and replaced wit ha Dahua and the pegging vanished.
@TheHookUp3 жыл бұрын
Again, I find the argument to be counterproductive. The morons at ipcamtalk are constantly regurgitating that issue over and over again because fenderman said it once, but a little bit of testing shows that it isn't the root of the problem. I have a Lorex camera (dahua OEM) that I'm testing right now that has locked (at .5 main, .25 sub) and it has none of the issues that the Reolink presents with. Yes, the feed switching is lower (which makes sense since it can only switch at an ), but it's not the root of the problem, and the longer we keep insisting that it is the longer it will take to find and fix the real issue.

@@TheHookUp All good. On a Blue Iris note. With the Continuous plus Alert recording, how did you find that with it dumping everything just in one recorded file and just switching resolution for the alert period? I am having a few issues where if I delete the alert from the Alert tab, then it deletes the pointer in the file also, sometimes even restarting the recording as a new file.

Congratulations, excellent video. I would like some help, I built the whole system with 40 cameras using DeepStack and it is working very well. I'm using a 16GB Xeon E5-2680 V2 server, which is handling 80-90% CPU and processing around 1200 ms of the images. But I want to improve more, would you know how to tell me if I put a QUADRO T400 video card to process on the GPU I will free my processor and get better results? Do you have any experience with GPU processing?

Hey Rob, great video as always, as this project is now going to consume my entire weekend. Question, is there a way that a successful deep stack analysis can trigger an Alexa alert? e.g. Deepstack identifies a vehicle coming up the driveway and Alexa announces “A vehicle is approaching.” Or someone cutting through our property announces, “A person is in the backyard”. (Although I’ll admit, a late night false positive could be frightening!)
@TheHookUp3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. Alexa media player can handle that easily (via home assistant). Without home assistant I'm not sure it's possible.

Great video! I set some of this up yesterday should have waited a day I guess lol. I've turned back on object detection because I have trees and shadows. The cars parked in my driveway were getting triggered as confirmed even with Detect/ignore static objects turned on. Seems the shadows moving over the cars is enough to trick DeepStack/BI that it's a moving object. While I know I could remove car from the confirm list that would mean I wouldn't know if someone else pulls their car into my driveway. Another annoying thing I have the schools parking lot in line of site of my camera because it's the angle I need to capture all the sidewalk in front of the house. While that lot is masked out for motion detection, DeepStack still scans that area of the image and correctly reports cars. Is there a way to mask the image that's sent to DeepStack like you had done for your neighbors car in your previous video? Any thoughts or suggestions on ways to do it better Rob?
@mattmo913 жыл бұрын
Also wondering about this. Without being able to mask out certain areas, it's pretty useless for my cameras that see the street. I only want alerts when people or cars come onto my property, not every time they go by.

@DrewY2132 жыл бұрын
@@remmahadepoopI It's gotten better with updates. Rarely during the day does a parked car set off an alert. However at night if headlights sweep across a parked vehicle, in the driveway, deepstack sees that as the vehicle being in motion. There's probably a way to train it but I haven't taken the time to play with that. Too many projects to work on 😆

What is the password entered at 9:27 on the popup from the selection of "Run as a Windows Service" for the Blue Iris user? Leaving it blank does not work.
@TheHookUp3 жыл бұрын
Windows password.
@larryseibold42873 жыл бұрын
@@TheHookUp Yep, that was the one. the problem was that as far as i know, there was no windows password set (blank) for the "Blue Iris" user, so nothing would work. I was unfortunately using Windows Home (not Pro) for some annoying MS/install reason. I ended up resting the password in an elevated power shell, which worked for BI as a service, and then i rebooted and upgraded windows to Pro and then was able to remove the log in password requirement again. Oddly, I had to re-enter the BI license number after the windows upgrade, but now it seems stable. DeepStack is working great so far. I wonder if there is an option to detect boxes at the front door? Excellent video by the way. thank you for posting it.

I converted 3 Hikvision Cameras to Reolink Smart Cameras 2 RLC-410A and I RLC 510AW. They all started working as advertized through your instruction on Blue Iris V% and Deepstack. I stopped getting false motion detection. But Yesterday, My RLC-410A for the front door stopped recording Deepstack. The BI Log Shows Cam 1 Motion Deepstack: Alert cancelled (noting found). The strange issue is I had to adjust the camera so I got up on a ladder to adjust the camera and there is a recording in Blue Iris but nothing in the log from Deepstack. I check the other cameras setup on Deepstack and they show Deepstack: Person 68%. I left a Hikvision Dome camera that is not Smart (Person capture) capable. I going to reinstall it on Blue Iris and deep stack to see that happens. Thanks for all your Help. Joe

Great video! It encouraged me to upgrade my old BI4 to a new BI5-installation with DS. It all works amazing except for one usecase: Toddlers running on our driveway. Seems like running adults are a bit tricky to catch as well but not as tricky as kids. I have a 4K Hikvision running in 10 fps. Do you think an increase to 25 fps could improve the toddler detection in DS? Or do you have any other idea on how to improve classification of fast moving objects?

What's the best way to take an AI triggered alert and send a HA notification to a phone with either the Alerts folder image or the little preview that UI3 uses? I've got it so BlueIris is sending MQTT messages and HA with Node-RED can send a notification to a phone with the companion app, just not sure about the image or animated preview part.
