I was also 12 when I watched this comeback. It was the first Jays game I ever watched in its entirety and I've been hooked ever since. I can't believe it's been 35 years.

When Ernie Witt hit that grand slam I know exactly where I was my grandmother's living room

The Jay's gave my Sox fits in the late 80s.. The very first baseball game I ever went to was September 1988 at Fenway Park.. A magical childhood memory ruined by the Blue Jays beating the Red Sox 11-1 lol.. I still remember Dwight Evens hitting a solo shot over the monster to score Boston's only run and me and my brother going nuts like they won.. I say the Jays ruined it but it was still one of my greatest memories.. First time at Fenway Park.

That sound when Whitt's bat hit that ball....

Most amazing part is how Ward pitched the last 3 innings. The game is so specialized now you would never see that. Got all 9 hitters out too!

would have liked to see the entire comeback, not just Whitt's homerun.

Know what happened the day after this? The Jays returned home to play their first game at SkyDome, against the Brewers. This was Cito's 3rd week as manager after they fired Jimy Williams when we began the year a piss-poor 12-24. After the sweep of the Red Sox we were 23-31. We didn't get to over .500 til after the ASG and then we went on a run of 16 wins in 18 games at the end of August and beginning of September. We went 77-49 after Cito took over. Loved him. He was a thinking man's manager, and those are the almost the only types who ever win the World Series.

Not many teams I don’t like, but the Red Sox are at the top of my list.

That was the turning point in the Blue Jays season that year.

Those were the days when the Jays owned the Red Sox. Funny looking back; little did the commentators know what was to come over the next four years.

Incredible grand slam by Whitt. Loved his all out swing where it looked like his back leg was practically hitting the ground. Go Jays!
