The spring perches need a gusset that goes halfway around the axle and braces the perch. You can tear it off without a gusset.

Thanks Gary, I didn’t want to weld them in permanently until I get weight on the car

That rear end is a 60s chevy rearend. The 55 56 57 had a drop out pumpkin. Looked like a Ford 8" or 9".

Serial number on the pumpkin reads 57 Chevy

Are you going to use a buggy spring in the rear?

Great build man, but should the weight be in the car before welding the rear up? As the frame rails come down with the body/interior/glass weight the centerline of the trans comes down. I could be wrong as I dont do a lot of transverse spring setups. Just a thought. Love the blue martian!

Thank you! And thank you for watching! As far as the rear everything is just tac welded in place, it can be cut and moved, I just set it up as a base line, I needed the rear together so I could set up the transmission output shaft angle

That isn't a 57 chevy rearend if it hasn't got a drop out pumpkin. You just remove the 4 bolts that hold the seal and the backing plates. 5 on 5 is Pontiac or Olds.

There might be some confusion in the editing, there has been a 57 rear end in the car, the rear end at the beginning of the video is from a 55 F100, I replaced what was in the car, the Chevy rear was blown

In the 60s a set of cheater slicks were recaps, they were rarely wider than 8 inches. The widest tires on the 60s were not that wide. If you wanted wide you had to get Indy Racing Tires. There was a guy here tgat recapped racing tires with a street compound. But the tires sais NOT FOR HIGHWAY USE on the side. Wide tires weren't really available until the 70s. Most people used bias ply tires in the 50s and 60s. There were polyglass GT tires in 68 and 69.

I like watching this build but don't say it's a early East coast 60 build. you started with a East coast 60s build. what's next, disc brake? love watching you but not 60s east coast.

Actually the radiator goes over the crossmember or behind it. Not in front. Be careful not to get the radiator too far forward. Should be centered on the front wheels.

I plan to put the radiator exactly where it was originally when the truck was built as a hotrod in 1957

Can't you adjust the pinion angle with the radius rods?

Yes sir, still needed to get it close to baseline so when the weight is all on the car it’s close

I love the channel and the car. BUT, a traditional hotrod with an automatic trans. No.

@@WiredCustomsSpeedShop I have not. But I do have a '26 roadster on a '32 frame that is pretty snug. Flathead and an early Ford trans. So I have a pretty good idea of what it is like. However, it is your car and should be exactly what you want it to be. I have to admit, any hotrod is much better than no hotrod. And yours is pretty special.

@@williamklein1221 for sure! Sounds like a cool build! I’m a roadster-alholic haha. I have a 31 roadster with Flathead and 39 transmission that’s super period correct to pre 1950, this one is going to be more driveable than that one, that’s my major plan

That is nOT a 1957 Chevy rear axle. The pumpkin came out the front on a 1957 Chevy.

I stoped liking alloy wheels on hot rods 30 years ago. Mags make it a street rod. Especially if they aren't period correct
