This game looks really cool! Sorta like a WW1 version of Zaxxon

An astute observation, if I may say so.

In fact, they might have considered titling this game "Saxon".

That's exactly what it was. I never saw this on Atari but remember playing it on my friend's Commodore 64.

Nice! I just scored an Atari 800 XL and 11 cartridges today for $90. It needs a bit of work, but it does function. I am a happy boy!

I'm glad someone is going through the Atari 8 bit's game archive. It was my favorite game system!

I got this one together with my 1050 disk drive, and I absolutely loved playing it.. The isometric view was quite new for the time and (especially) the altitude change made it quite challenging. Great memories, occasionally refreshed by playing it even today.

I used to play this on the Commodore 64 back in the day. Lots of fun but very hard.

Same here - a couple of my friends of my childhood and I played both versions (there was an Atari 800 XL in my house and a C64 in one of my friends' house). Tons of fun, regardless of the system ;-)

SSI released a game called Warship for the Atari-800 it was tactical Naval Combat in the Pacific theatre. It was one of the best Naval combat simulators I have ever seen.

"where pressing down on the joystick gains altitude" Oh! That would explain why I couldn't take off and kept crashing... ;-)

This was one of my favorite games on my Atari-800. I had it on cassette so it would take 15 minutes to load. I used to love dropping my bombs on the bridge just in front of the school busses so they would fall through the hole. You could also bomb ships. One flight sim I loved was F-15 Strike Eagle my Microprose I think. It was a fantastic and a decent attempt as a simulation. Hellcat Ace was another fantastic game.

If the game was remade in 2020 "Kamikaze Trainee" would be an achievement.

Watching this now, I'm unreasonably annoyed by the way that the airplane sprites and the landscape are rendered with different perspective.
