The first film for 'Hippies in Space'.
Somewhat of a raw slice of Hippies in Space.
Lots of learning and some improvements for future films. Lighting, for outer space sets is awfully tricky. Unlike Hippie-ville Town where the lighting is a splash of light everywhere, outer space lighting NEEDS to come from one direction (unless inside a space craft). Also, the position of the camera rig itself could not be placed between the light source and the scene. And, moving the background set around, moving rocks, seemed a tad tricky to keep a sequence of background sets.
The opening music is perfect, and thanks to Red Dwarf (BBC TV series), [ • Red Dwarf opening - Red Dwarf sample] for the idea to have serious music in a comedy series. (Although, Blue Moon film is not overtly funny). Similar to when the Animal House (1979) movie was in development, in an interview, John Landis (director) had argued with the film studio to put in serious music as the film's intro to a comedy film. Anyhoo... Blue Moon film is the INTRODUCTION to Hippies in Space, it's quite raw and rough, and future Hippies in Space short films will tweak certain elements, such as the opening scene ought to have the stars twinkling, funnier story line, and other "ease in and ease out" issues..
