The New Shepard reusable launch system was launched from and landed at Blue Origin’s Launch Site One in West Texas, on 4 August 2022, at 13:57 UTC (08:57 CDT). The New Shepard capsule carried six passengers to space: Coby Cotton, Mário Ferreira, Vanessa O’Brien, Clint Kelly III, Sara Sabry and Steve Young. NS-22 is the eighth mission, launch and landing, for this New Shepard launch vehicle (NS4).

I'm always nervous by how close to Earth it is when the re-ignition for the landing happens.

I would jump at the chance to do this. I am, however, intensely curious about one thing: Is that capsule pressurised to ground level pressure, or does a pressure differential exist as on commercial airliners (meaning the capsule environment "climbs" to 10,000 feet or so) - and in either case, especially given the huge windows, how does the capsule not explode at altitude?

A very masculine rocket to be sure. Now it just needs a couple of large spherical shaped tanks at the bottom.

I wouldn't say they are now astronauts. Don't take that away from an actual astronaut who has done so much training and put in the hours to learn all there is to know about the rockets and space.

Why don't they wear pressure suits.. is it because this isn't a real rocket?
@juhovalio5906
@juhovalio5906 19 күн бұрын
Nowadays it's rare to have eva-suits. Most people that go to space don't need them. Look up falcon-9 launches with space-x. No need for pressude suits. You don't need them when flying in an airplane so why would you in a spacecraft. The craft is the pressure vessel.
@Time2gojoe
@Time2gojoe 19 күн бұрын
@@juhovalio5906 I didn't ask about eva suits which are totally different than pressure suits.. and NASA absolutely requires and mandates pressure suits be worn on every launch and re-entry in case the space vehicle is damaged or aborts it's mission.. all space agencies and all space vehicles require pressure suits and they are worn until orbit is achieved which is when they take them off. Obviously new Shepard goes through similar stress to a real orbital rocket so I don't know why it's the only vehicle that doesn't require pressure suits, again I'm guessing because it doesn't really go to space

@@Time2gojoe Well what do you mean by pressure suit? A suit to keep the vacuum of space out in case of a rapid depressurisation? Falcon-9 suits wont do that. Since they're not eva suits. In a rapid depressurisation the whole crew will just be dead. That's a fact with any suit ever. The suits used by space-X are just sort of protective suits to help not to bump head into anything during the shaking of max-q etc, or in case of abort. I think they also have some fireproofing and cooling. They might also have some g-tech in them. Not sure. But they're not 'pressure suits'. They won't survive the vacuum of space, without the craft. And New Sheperd goes to space. It just doesn't go to orbit. Orbit means travelling horizontally at 27 000km/h. New sheperds horizontal velocity is about 0, as it returns to the launch area. It goes up fast and comes down fast. An orbital rocket goes up, turns to it's side on the way and accelerates to huge speeds. It's a totally different thing. New Shepard goes past the made up line that defines space, but it is just a hop.

@@juhovalio5906 pressure suits.. pressure suits.. PRESSURE SUITS the suits that every astronaut ever in human history has worn inside the space craft as they launch into space and return to earth. Once again I'm not talking about EVA.. no one said anything about EVA.

@@Time2gojoe And you say that New shepard experiences similiar stress than orbital rockets. No it doesn't. 50 seconds into the flight, NS is travelling 490mph. 50 seconds into the flight of MUCH heavier falcon 9, it is travelling over double of that. 1005mph. Falcon 9 is heavier, more powerful and accelerates much faster, wich makes the aerodynamic stresses much bigger.
