For anyone interested in video games with a magical girl theme, I highly recommend Gravity Rush 1 and 2. The story and atmosphere is basically a mash-up of Sailor Moon and Kiki's Delivery Service but in a steampunk society with a darker, French-inspired aesthetic? The lead designer worked on the original Silent Hill and the Siren series :)

I was totally thinking that this has a feeling of BRS inspiration while Valkyrie was explaining the premise. Especially since the MC's regular appearance kind of looks like Mato with out her little twin tails, and the presence of a special blue eye in her magical form. Honestly speaking, I'm perfectly okay with this, although it does make me wish they'd make a new... anything for the series, or do something with the Innocent Souls manga.
@JustinTK4166 жыл бұрын
Vazazell, that's arguable, but it's kind of just an old PSP game at this point, and while the gameplay looks... decent, it seems limited to a shoot, slash, dodge, system and I can understand someone not being totally enthused about such a game design. Personally, I would want one that played almost like Nier, being a hack and slash with special range attacks and abilities, with a little bit of potential exploration, be it open world or level based, but that's just me. It does look kinda fun though, and if a port popped up on PSN for like between 5 and 10 dollars, I'd almost certainly get it, but... I just don't see that happening.

Like, sweet baby Buddha the soundtrack in this game is straight fire.

Not only did I finally beat this game but I managed to Platinum it on my first try. This game is definitely one of my favorite PS4 games! The story is well told though does have it's melodramatic moments. The characters are interesting each with their own backstories and complex emotions. The battle system was fun, though i wish the battle fields had more variety in the environment. The music was just AMAZING! And by far BEST GIRL is Lime! FIGHT ME! Lime had her faults but she did what she had to in order to save the world and help her friends. Not only that but she was a demon on the battlefield! I will never forget you Lime! Thanks for reviewing this. I’ve been curious, but it’s been a hard sell, what with a lack of detailed videos on it and not having played any of the developers’ previous works. I got this game a couple of months ago for about 300kr/30£ and I really liked it. The framerate issues were a bit distracting and getting every friend to max friendship while also doing every sidequest definitely got a bit "grindy" but I liked all the girls and their stories and I loved the music, especially the battle theme and the music piece that plays before the final battle. That got me good. Now, if only any of the PS4 atelier games could go down in price a bit so I could buy them.

i actually bought this game last month and I'm doing a slow burn playthrough of it. I bought a physical copy and found out Physical copies in America are slightly hard to get. I found my copy in a Gamestop listed in Texas and I live in Ohio so i got screwed on the shipping. But overall my time with this game is satisfying so far, the characters have a simple but complex depth to them that makes me genuinely interested in learning about them. The battle system is a turn based system which is one of my favs in JRPGS and most of all it's PRETTY! The lighting in this game is amazing to me especially when you see it shine through a window or look at the sunset, i honestly hope someone got a raise for that. The soundtrack does a great job at giving the atmospheres of battle, everyday life and the common. I think my favorite parts in this game so far have to be the boss fights! All of the dungeon crawling and relationships you make with the other girls feel like their culminating to where you can kick some major butt in the boss fights. The fact that the NPCS participate in boss battles were a MAJOR plus for me personally showing even non magical girls can help! So far I am so glad I was finally able to get this game and I hope to finish it soon! And it's my hope Gust makes more MGJRPGs! And last thing for me Lime is my favorite and one of the best characters in the game for me so far.

Thanks for making this. I remember seeing this on PSN awhile back and kinda flagged it as an out-there but overall mindless magical girl game that I might get on a whim sometime when I have time to kill and a bit of a funk or something I want to distract myself from. I'm actually somewhat intrigued by this now, and while I've never been super for the "other world of emotions and personal demons" thing that is present in things like this, Persona 5, and the Black Rock Shooter anime, it's not necessarily a negative either, and I actually did like BRS, although largely for the surreal style of the Other World and action sequences, the likable and interesting character arcs were also a major plus, something that this seems to have in common with the series. I still think I'm most likely to wind up playing this when I want something cute to take my mind off things, but the fact that it's a bit more than that is awesome. PS: I still wanna know your thoughts on Gravity Rush and the sequel. I personally really enjoyed them, and there is some degree of similarity between it and the Nier series. Plus, ya know, the free 2B outfit add on for the second game is just cool.

i know it's a good game and all , but i kind of don't wanna start it when i see the "put the control input here" in a launcher. that's like the biggest "IM A SHITTY PC PORT" flag a jrpg game can give you and i actually wanna enjoy games from this company. EDIT: so i finished the game: -story is kinda OK but nothing too incredible coming from gust -gameplay is good with the bunch of changes you can make with the fragments on every skill , i could throw down every stat on the enemy and fully raise my stats in 2 turns whenever a battle starts. The bad thing is: -you don't level up killing monster , you level by talking to people in school -max lvl 50 / max stats 30 -does not matter if you put all def in a chara , another with def 1 will get stats close to the tank chara you made (wich makes no sense actually) -everything revolves around fragments (items you attach to your skills to raise everything ) , you kill monsters to get items and improve the fragments up to +3. So stats or lvl don't matter much. -battles are so easy that you can win the game without dying once and normal battles without letting the enemy fight.

I know this is awfully late, but I had to say I like to pick up Japanese games that they chose to release on PC in the hopes that they do more PC releases. So when this came out I picked it up. And I actually liked the game a lot... Right up until I got to one particular level which always crashed the game for me. I've never gone back to it, though I've been tempted and I probably should. Oh and I actually didn't feel it had frame rate issues or really any issues on my PC until the crash bug I ran into. I don't own a PS4 though, so PC was always going to be my choice and I have a good PC.

Hey, I loved this game! Thanks for making a review, wasn't expecting it since it's so little known ^^ . Loved your comment on the outfits: "they could have gone a bit more over the top" YOU MADWOMAN(?) loved the video~

Is it weird that i'm a 24 year old boy who likes Magical Girl animes, i love Sailor Moon and Puella Magi Madoka Magica to this day (also i'm getting Persona vibes from this, Persona with a Magical Girl twist, i can take a little less depth with the social interactions, sounds interesting, might get it while its on deal on PSN)

Is there a time limit like the one year time limit in persona games?

Nice review. If you liked Atelier series, and Blue Reflection, I strongly recommend the Ar tonelico Series. The first and second games are for PS2, Ar tonelico III (QOGA) and Ar noSurge are for PS3. I love the Gust games too. I played all Ateliers released in english, but my favorite series still Ar tonelico (my first Gust game was Ar tonelico II).

I think it's an OK game and it's very pretty by Gust standards. The music was pretty unique (dubstep in a JRPG). But gameplay-wise I'd give it a 4/10 or less due to repeating the same boring fetch quest designs, and dungeons for the entire game. The combat isn't that interesting. Plus it feels like there should have been more party members, with all the girls you recruit but are literally just put on the sidelines.

Yeah it looks pretty much just a low budget title with main audience on Vita. Theme over excitement most of the time. PS4 version is like sitting in an awkward position, not sure who it is trying to please.

Agree. It's a 6/10 with a potential for an 8/10 if the gameplay was better, because the aesthetics, UI, music and characters are top level. It's sadly a very unbalanced game.

You can just ignore all the misions but the bare minimun honestly. By the end of the game you will have an excess of Rating points.
