Keep doing exactly what you’re doing. Talk about price and value per dollar. I’m with Sean, I think everything should be a little bit cheaper too and comparing bottles to other bottles at or below that price range is great for those that can’t get it but might be on the fence if they see it in a store. @allenbt112 жыл бұрын
I don't doubt this is a terrific bottle of whiskey. Not to be that guy, but I am not actually that concerned about the price. ($120 is a lot, but I can always save up.) However a production run of 636 bottles is an issue. I would bet after samples to reviewers, influencers and trade buyers, there were less than 500 to go to actual retail. That means most of us will never see one in the wild. Like tasting notes on a store pick, it's interesting academically, but not really useful for the consumer. I'd really rather see you guys only review bottles with at least a 2,000 bottle run, regardless of the price point. If it has a $250 + MSRP, but really sounds awesome, so be it. If I'm interested, I'll save up for it.
@francisrizzo15292 жыл бұрын
I think you should just judge the taste/quality of what's in the bottle, but tell us the price too. Best case scenario, maybe mention whiskeys that are comparable in quality (if you like xyz, you may like this abc)... Or give two scores, one on quality and one on value?
@BourbonJunkies2 жыл бұрын
In reality we did give a quality grade and price grade in this one. A for quality. B for price.
@red5standingby4192 жыл бұрын
I don't see how you can separate the two. The whiskey in the bottle could be an A+ but if they're charing $500 for it, it can still be a complete rip off and not worth your time therefore an F. I'm fine with the way the give an overall score that takes into account everything about the product.
@francisrizzo15292 жыл бұрын
@@red5standingby419 It's easy to separate the two. Pick any Old Carter, if your buddy bought a bottle and gave you some, you'd drink it and say "damn that's good Jimmy, breaking out the gourment sh!t on us?" That's the whiskey grade. Now let's say you take a date out to dinner and she orders a double Old Carter neat. You just squeezed a diamond outta your o-ring because you wouldn't even pay that much for a drink for yourself. That's the value grade. You can't make every grade a contingency on how many $30 bottles of 10-year Eagle Rare you can buy instead.
@francisrizzo15292 жыл бұрын
@@BourbonJunkies Right, but what makes the whole price/value thing so difficult is that the store prices are all over the place. How about making a tier (or top 10) video each year for different price points, under $50, $50-$100, $100-$200, $200-and-up? You could even do an MSRP list and a store-markup/secondary price list?
@the_snicklefritz2 жыл бұрын
Im sure Blue Run makes some good spirits. I'll never be a consumer after the Bourbon Pursuit podcasts though... Not a brand and/or individuals I want to support in this industry. I want to support brands that actually, ya know... like whiskey rather than viewing it is simply a business investment. Ill never knock someone for supporting their brand, they have PHENOMENAL marketing and packaging, I'm just not supporting those owners, ever.

Nobody is arguing they get a free pass because nobody is arguing that it is in fact a good value lol. If someone asked me who a value hunter was you'd be one of the first names that came to my mind. I'm the biggest fan boy of Blue Run that I know and I don't argue buying them from a value standpoint. Premium brands do exist and I do believe it's clear that Blue Run plays/lives in that market (I don't think you can be in the premium brand market and be in the value market personally) but that part doesn't bother me because I do genuinely enjoy their releases and they continue to get better from one to the next. If they stop progressing, getting better I will stop buying them in all honestly but I have extremely high hopes for Blue Run in 3-4 years and they won't get there if nobody supports them now. This is easily my favorite release they've put out that wasn't old/sourced which means we are still headed in the right direction (for me personally). Cheers buddy!
