I also learned to drive in a 40 year old Landrover, a leftover from WW2... and you're right it's like driving a shed!
@digitalbegleyАй бұрын
Unlikely that it was left over from the Second World War as the Land Rover wasn't invented until 1947. But those early ones Were hilarious to learn to drive in.
@GenaFАй бұрын
Maybe Rose was told that. Most of us believe what our elders tell us. In any case if she has ever seen Black & White footage of Land Rovers with parachutes being shoved out of transporter planes, then it's quite easy to believe that it was during war time.

Think it's a Jurassic Park reference! In the original film, Sam Neill's character boards the helicopter to find he only has two 'female' ends of the safety belt. Later in the film, it is revealed that the dinosaurs in the park have been able to reproduce despite the parks' geneticists only cloning female dinosaurs...'Life finds a way'.

I know exactly how you feel about returning home , it is not the same as you remember. I left home at age 20 which was 49 years ago. When I go home and I still call it that because my mother is still living ( age 95 and as spry as she was 20 years ago) Even thought If grew up in Charlottetown P.E.I. it is the country side that makes me feel like I belong. My mother is Irish and very proud and stubborn and I know how lucky I am to have had her in my life for so long. I have been able to ask her lots of questions about her childhood and about Irish ancestors. So enjoy your family Brian and enjoy the Guinness.

Loved your definition of driving a Land Rover! Spot on. My dad loved them, l grew up being taken everywhere in a Series 1 with a speedo that just flicked right and left like a windscreen wiper when we went downhill. Later dad had a long-wheel base and, coming back from a day's dinghy sailing, he had a brain fart and took a roundabout the wrong way coming through Bakewell. I guess back then (1970s) there was less traffic but in any case no-one chose to argue the point. I still get car sick unless l have air blasting at me, that's one of the joys of Land Rovers, they're very airy, especially the soft tops! 🤣
