The first thing in owning a dog: NEVER FORCE A DOG SOMETHING THEY ARE UNSURE ABOUT OR DONT WANT TO DO. The result in that is if you do what he is doing he/she may take it as scary and make it a fear of theres.

Never force any dog, you need to train dogs. That’s when it’s important for you to be, at least, as smart as the canine. Warning specific to handlers of Staffordshire Bull Terriers and other “heavy boned” dogs. My second Service Dog, Phoebe Amanda, could and would do everything I asked of her except swim!! She loved water and if she saw a stick lying on the bottom of a river, she’d happily march in, feet always on the river bed, get the stick and march back out looking like a little tank!! She only got to do that once since I’m older and thought I was going to have a stroke or heart attack that day!! I’m training my 3rd SD now and already have his swim vest. He’s a Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix so he might be able & willing to swim, but not taking chances until I see!

as you can obviously see the poor dog backed away from the water when they were forcing the dog in the water. i have a pure breed staffy andwe just placed (jett) on the first step of the pool in stead of literally dragging him all the way out in the freaking middle and then once he kinda got use to the water we out him on a floating bed for dogs and he loved it:) he loved it because we let him become use to the water and we trained him from a young age but not to young probs like 10 months old

Jack Don't listen to those stories my friend, all dogs are a mirror of their owners. I bought mine from Derby, which is 120 miles away from where I live, because I fell in love with the little guy on his advert. I done alot of research into what kind of dog would suit my family life the best and it turned out to be a staffy. I had a German Shepherd before and he was a 60kg teddy bear but I lived in a bigger house with a garden back then, this time round I couldn't get another one. I watched alot of Cesar Millan and how to try dogs. He has a dog psychology farm with loads of dogs, and the leader of the pack was a pitbull called Daddy. When Daddy started getting old he got a blue staff called Junior to take over Daddy's duty. Over the program Junior turn into such a great dog, that would teach other dogs how to act and be around people and other dogs. When I saw this it made me want to have a blue staff of my own. I then went to parks or places that I new that dogs would be there, and when ever I saw a Staff, I would ask them about there dog, and all they told me was that they had heard the bad stories about the breed, but it was just another case of a bad owner creating a bad dog. All dogs need to be socialized with other dogs and humans. They need at least 1 hour exercise a day, and they love to play with every one in your house. Staffies have quite alot of energy which needs to be burned off, otherwise they get bored and will start finding things to do, like eat your shoes or sofa. They need plenty of toys. When you buy a Staff you must meet their mum and when ever possible there dad, because this will tell you what your puppy is going to grow up to be like. When I got mine, the breeders house was full of happiness, happy dogs, puppies, 5 happy children. My dogs mum came up to me first to welcome me in, she had the best personality. Met the dad, Nan and great Nan. All the dogs had individual personalities, but they were all super friendly and welcoming. When I held Charlie in my arms, it felt right, I felt like his dad. I wouldn't recommend a Staff to someone that has never had a powerful breed of dog, because they are very intelligent and training them is a challenge that needs patience, because they will try to do what they want and not what you want, not in a bad way, just the same as human children when they don't do what they are told the first time and all they want to do is play. Keep things fun for them, don't make training a chore make it a game instead. The best way I know about bringing up a Staff is in three steps. Exercise most important, training, and last of all love. You manage to do these three steps well and be a good dad to that staffy and you'll have the best dog and friend you could ask for. Sorry for the long reply, but I do love my staffies. If you ever need more advice that I can help with, I'm right here mate.

Jack No Jack, never has done. He's had reasons to trust me, he has met some annoying ones if I was a dog I would have at least barked at them, but he's just ignored them and carried on with our walk. I'm not saying they are complete saints, if a dog starts a fight on my Staff I know my boy is more then capable of finishing it, so I've trained him to stop and leave on my comand. I have 110% confidence in my boy, it's the others you have to watch. So always ask the other owner is it OK if they meet each other just to make sure their dogs not a little shit. Are you thinking about getting one?
@INuzil8 жыл бұрын
ZeroGHome24 yeh I really wana get one, i've read a book of staffs, looked at tones of videos andread about them online. my parents say I can get one soon when the dog i have now gets a little older but i wana make sure that its the right dog for me

but as "American Staffordshire Terriers" since Petey was already a registered American Pitbull Terrier with the UKC he became the first AmStaff, thus dual registered pit. All the AmStaffs trace all their lines back to UKC registered pit-bull terriers. So any AmStaff is a PITBULL, just with a fancy name that came from people that hated pitbulls to begin with. Anyways, you have an awesome pit, and you can tell that y'all take excelent care of him, keep it up.
