I'm 62 and I've loved Blue Stratos since I was in my mid teens.....it's an iconic odour from the 70s.

Thanks for talking about these inexpensive fragrances as well as the pricier ones. Brut, Blue Stratos, Old Spice all seem to get quite a few upturned noses because they are commodity scents, but that doesn't mean they aren't good.

"Blue Stratos" was one of my discoveries some 20 years ago, when I walked into a Dutch pharmacy. I did not know it, but I was intrigued by the simple blue bottle - and by the price. What could go wrong? But then I was intrigued by the scent as well. Ever since I buy it - provided my wife (who was not with me 20 years ago!) is not in the vicinity, as she does not like it all that much. And thanks for equating me with the "Six Million Dollar Man"!

I love Blue Stratos. Was too young for it first time around and if OS, Brut or Hai Karate is anything to go by, it was no doubt better back in the day. To me, Blue Stratos is the best bits of OS and Brut. Its talcum powder, fresh, clean and warming.

I brought a 100mL bottel of Blue Stratos (in Auckland 1986) and it lasted until 2015 until someome stole it, _"Oh dear, how sad never mind"_ and in August 2022, brought another 100mL bottle. No change in the sent! the price here $40 a bottle, UK £5, what a mark-up! I love *Blue Stratos* I would buy it again.

You should do a show-down between the other heavy-weights of the era - a kind of 'battle of the titans' (for under five quid) - Blue Stratos, Brut 33, Old Spice... & Hai Karate (lol - which was re-launched only last year). Hai Karate had the best adverts, by far (Valerie Leon going ballistic was something I used to dream about as a seven-year old... but that's enough of that).

always find these low-budget-yet-classy reviews highly interesting, so thx for the great job Ash! fitting to this one in particular, being rather mild and cheap to throw on, i recommend having a look in turkish colonia culture, or as i call it “turkish shower”. having a wife from izmir really got me into that stuff. I found the latest aftershave and EDT formulation and got really excited until I used it. The weakest scent I own. A pity as the original was lovely. It instantly disappeared and was a waste of the £5 I spent. The scent longevity matches the money spent.

I just recently purchased some as it was the go to for a young guy that graced the discos and clubs back in the 80s. Im not sure it smells the same as the one they use to make, then again it well could. Its more I have been used to the different and more varied off the shelf brands that are available. Pretty much the only ones back in the day were Old Spice,Brut and Blue Stratos lol.

Update:Got it.When i opened the bottle my wife said that's like grandfather's...:)First impressions lemon, fresh...After it sets there is some sweetness to it.I like it.I paid £7 and i am happy what i got for my buck.Thank you for reviewing it!

I enjoyed the clips of the original adverts, times have changed. Not necessarily for the better. The Blue Nun of the fragrance world. A guilty pleasure everyone has in the depths of their wine cellar. Interestingly the bottle does have an uncanny resemblance to Versace Dylan Blue however. I guessed incorrectly again with the 'which celebrity would wear this fragrance' section. My guess was Charles Hawtrey!

Threw mine away. Loved the original, it was a classic. This stuff didnt last, not a pleasant scent... You're a man of style and class and I'm pleased you're not over impressed... I tend to agree with your fragrance reviews..

I have the Perfums bleu version and the Three pears version. Three Pears smells different. It is more like the scent of eau de toilette. Keeps the scent longer. The version you review disappears very quickly... thank you. Greetings from Barcelona.

I think I wore this once a very long time ago; I wasn't very into it as the scent was too "sweet-bubble gum type of" to me, but there was one I liked and it came with aftershave-body talc and deodorant ............. Slazenger, it was cheap but hell!!!! .......... fresh and citrus but with a bit of wood in the dry down.

Have you tried *imperial leather* aftershave? According to the box its made in Danenong Victoria 3175, Australia! Unlike Blue Stratos, spray. which is made in the UK (according to the box), no wounder its expensive in New Zealand round $40

I have not tried it, but my family always used Imperial Leather soap when I was a kid and I loved that smell.

Imperial leather has not been made in dandenong australia for over 10 years, at present it is made in thailand.

My dad was a great fan of Old Spice, so when I met my (now) wife, he was delighted to find that she was born about a mile away from the Shulton factory - and the factory shop! Bloody hell, it was powerful stuff - no wonder he lived to be 94.

It is so cheap I think most people just buy a large bottle and decant what they need into a more suitable recepticle.

All these old classic after shaves are not as strong or long lasting .If it doesn’t sting your face when applying after a proper wet shave it’s useless & not doing it’s job .Also I find the most of these old brands have been taken over by face soap & detergent company’s & no longer manufactured by the original companies .As for many of the modern aftershave concoctions ,they are very effeminate & are more representative and contain all the character & odour of the contents of a cheap tarts handbag & should be priced accordingly .

@@TheChapsGuide Sadly I am afraid the same now goes for Brut & Old Spice & some of that naff Hi Karate that keeps rearing it’s ugly head in cheap discount supermarkets in the form of spray deodorant .I have known cheap copies of Channel No 5 to have originated from illegal factory’s in certain dubious areas of the U.K. & I dare say the same goes for certain ranges of chaps after shave products .We have to be forever vigilant if our standards are not to drop .
