Hello Jimmy, perfect day to go crabbing on the kayak, that was a monster blue manner and it is a good spot, I fished there with my dad (1962) and black wall reach, biggest 7.5 "(190mm)across the back. 13ft tinny 15 hp plus lots of fun! Sounds like you had a blast back then, always a good time on the Swan 💯🦀🎣👌🏻 yeah was expecting the bigger crab later in the season and just seeing him come up all mud stained was pretty cool to see....like he'd been in hibernation 🤣 would love to see the 180mm + crabs but I reckon its getting so much harder now. when i was a young bloke fishing in pittwater sydney,.. the art was to throw a line out with a dead yellowtail as bait...after a little while the line would go straight as the crab took it to deeper waters...slowly pulling in the line and scooping them up in a prawning net...always walked home with them alive in fresh salt water... to cook them you put them into a cooking pot and slowly heat the water as it sends them off to sleep... the meat is relaxed and not tense as will happen if you throw them into boiling water as people seem to do these days... nice catch salty.. i like in kalgoorlie now but perth is only a hope skip and a jump... might try my luck there one day (-:

Yo Jimmy…..that’s no lie about the weather being nuts! Here in Cali, early October we had 3 heat waves of 3 or more days bing over 100 F (38 C) and last week in October we has 35F (2 C)….also NUTS! We had 1 week of fall weather. As for dropping a camera in the pot, how about attach the case to the bottom of the net and attach a small float to the top of the case to insure it is upright? So, I just read this comment and couldn't resist the urge to throw my hat in the ring with a 92 cm across the claws, it was 1997and in 2m water at 11am right smack bang in front of the city, which is where we crabbed most often from 1989 thru to around 2008 and we grew very accustomed to the big'ns. We'd only keep em if they were over 75. Very different story now and without being too negative, it has been tough since the sound shut and the great influx to the swan occurred and then social media took care of the rest. They've been fished down to a size in the Swan and I've no doubt in my mind that with the exception of the very occasional one or too, the days of the consistent 80 cm crabs and above are gone and gone for good. I think it would help lots if the season didn't open till mid Jan, I mean we would never crab before Australia Day, ever and it would always be big big crabs and thru Feb into March it was on. The small crabs are being taken now and not given a chance to grow because everyone is keen on a feed but honestly, if something doesn't change soon, i think the big crabs are history. Just my opinion mate and I love your channel and the energy and enthusiasm you bring to the whole game of fishing, so well done bud and keep up the good work. PS, i've got a crab spag recipe given to me by my old man who was Dr Crab and taught me all i know and it is killer. I might share it with you some time. Laters bro. Mick.
