People looked at us all the time since we were a bunch of kids on board this large million (local ccy) boat. Riding around in the small boats with 30 hp, hopping from small "islands", beaches etc vs the large fancy boat, the small one would beat the large anytime as a kid. The large one was very expensive so we had to be careful, which took a lot of fun out of it.

That was obviously not the case here - highly unlikely he's going to be rendered unconscious in this scenario, and with multiple people with eyes on him a life jacket would be stupid. I’ve been in a mechanical rescue situation with another large boat. One of their passengers decided to jump into the water, and nearly had his head crushed between our two boats. The fenders were out, and that gave him a fraction of a second to get out of the way. The fenders squished together just enough to keep the boats from colliding, but not enough to protect his coconut. Don’t compound a bad situation.
