You know what on second thought! That might have been a setup//clickbait. There was a pilot that does or used to frequent air shows in an older tail dragger. The announcer would announce that there is a drunk in an airplane or something to that nature. This guy would take off and the stuff he would do made you think he was drunk. He'd come with an inches of crashing pull it off all the time and of course as it turned out he was a very talented pilot! For all we know this guy in the Jeep in the boat could have been a professional truck driver. He came so close to making it so many times and then messed it up you wonder! A couple of times when he was at a tight 90° angle he stopped just short of causing damage. A couple of times he got really close to the docks but stopped just in time and corrected. Maybe old Alfred needed a little stimulus for his site.

I learned a similar way but I mastered it while working at a marina with a fleet of small skiffs we used as passenger ferries. I had to load and unload the ferries every day by myself mostly. I could back the trailer down the ramp, avoiding people standing in the way, their gear in the way on the ramp etc... I would back it down, hop out the truck and onto the boat, have the boat in its designated slip and back in the truck within a couple minutes and repeat until all the skiffs were in the water and ready to shuttle people across the sound to the lighthouse. People were amazed sometimes and just stood there and watched me. That was a fun job... especially running a flat bottom skiff across a choppy sound with a boat load of big chested women.👀🤤

Backing up correctly is a blend of experience and confidence. This guy has confidence but not experience. I've been there with a trailer when I first got my camper. Best thing this guy (and anyone new to backing up a trailer) is find an empty school parking lot on a weekend, set up some cones or whatever and practice/practice/practice until you get the experience. Also know your limits and when to ask/accept help!
@perwestermark89202 жыл бұрын
A bit of brain would also help. If the boat is turning the wrong way, he need to realise he can't continue angling his car in the same direction unless he want the boat at 90 degrees. It takes training to do this smoothly. But even without training, a brain would help informing when he need to angle the car in the other direction. Especially since he had a huge space there and didn't need to do it perfectly.

This is the ramp in Boynton Beach Florida, I use it multiple times a week. I’m here to tell anyone that doesn’t know this already to PUT YOUR HAND ON THE BOTTOM OF THE STEERING WHEEL at the 6oclock position when backing up a trailer. Literally just swing your hand to whatever way you want the trailer to go. I used to sell boats and have taught many people using this method. Don’t overcorrect, let the trailer move before adjusting the wheel. If you have the truck/trailer straight and lined up to the water, you should never really need to swing the wheel past the 3oclock or 9oclock position while backing up, so try to position the truck/trailer as straight as you can so it’s mostly just a straight shot backwards to the water. Not always possible but still keep your hand planted at that 6oclock position. Good luck and happy boating!

Between the Jeep and the boat is probably looking at 150 200 grand. Sure can't back up though. I'd have had that thing back there in about 2 minutes and givein him 5 cents change. He's probably a dentist! Has to take his time doing stuff! He needs to find somebody to teach him how to back up. He was so close at times. Yet so far away! Towards the end he seemed to be getting it with less corrections. But nope went back to his old way. Got to say though he had the circles down he did those pretty good. He was also able to do a pretty nice 90°. Those can get scary and expensive! Oops big crease in the back of the jeep. If he can't handle the Jeep and the trailer how he could be expected to handle the boat on the water. On a side note, the only way I can watch this long video was to mute the volume. @joerucinski19623 жыл бұрын
Hi Alfred, I can't help but make a comment on your video. Please let the folks out there know a few things about launching a boat: (1) Practice backing your trailer in a vacant parking lot. Not at the boat landing. (2) The parking (emergency) brake ONLY works on the rear tires, NOT the front. If they locked up the front, a person would lose control if they were to use the e-brake while driving. (3) Using 4 wheel drive can help to provide traction to the front tires. But NOT while in park. (4) Using a bar clamp to depress the brake pedal while parked on the ramp applies the FRONT AND REAR brakes. This could prevent a vehicle from losing traction on the rear tires and slipping into the water. Using your channel to provide useful information to novice boaters could be a great service to the entire boating community. I like your channel and enjoy what you are providing. Keep up the good work!!

My rule of thumb when I boated was when your cockeyed at the ramp , to pull ahead twice as far as you think you need to straighten out. It always worked like a charm. Another trick is to hold the steering wheel at the bottom while backing and turn the wheel to the direction you need the trailer to turn.

I’m Cajun from south central Louisiana. I live on the bayou & there is 3 boat ramps within a mile & 5 more within 4 miles of my home. I have 2 boats & a jet ski so I’m at the ramps often & I’ll tell you commercial fisherman are the fastest in & out and most courteous. Most bass fisherman are quick & courteous at the ramps. We have a lot of Couyons (Cajun French slang for Dumba$$) with race boats/speed boats that love to block the ramps & even the gas pumps at the stations near the landings. Just yesterday, I pulled up to the gas pump, race boat guy was already at a pump. I filled my truck, pulled out the way & went into the store. The station owner is an old HS friend, I talked with him for a good 20 minutes, when I walked out, the race boat guy is still at the pump & he’s walking around trying to strike up conversations about his boat. Seeking admirations about his boat while blocking everyone out. They usually don’t prep before, they pull up to the ramp, then unstrap, put in plug, all while taking their time & praying that someone walks up & admires their boat so he can brag about his boat! I rather deal with a newby then the Couyons!!

I stumbled upon this channel and I watched this in awe. Being Dutch I have no idea about how driving licenses are given to people in the US of A, but here in the Netherlands you have to have a license for your car but also a license to tow a trailer of that size. You have to take lessons at a driving school to be able to do this.
@romangarcia90262 жыл бұрын
It’s the same here in the USA, but it depends on the size and weight of the trailer.

As a seasoned 3rd gen trucker, I find it entertaining to watch the average Joe attempt to back a trailer. It takes quite a bit of skill, finesse, and spacial awareness to really get good at it. Just like any other skill it takes practice and patience to perfect. Grab some orange cones from a department store, find an empty parking lot in your area, watch a tutorial or two, and practice. Best to get the hang of it in a controlled, safe environment before you go risking damage to your equipment, whatever it may be.

I set up some cones and practiced aiming at them until I could park the trailer straight between them. Took me ages, but once learned you never forget, and now I can put a trailer wherever I want to with confidence. Hell get it, sooner or later. I was slow to learn, but not that slow lol. He definitely needed someone to help him. My hubby taught me. His directions were excellent and I backed our boat in on the second try. Now I’m an expert by myself. Someone with experience helps so much when learning. First, I practiced at home. That is key. One of the best 4th of Julys we had was sitting on the dock watching inexperienced boaters try to get their boat on trailer after the fireworks display. My hubby assisted probably 25 people who had no clue. It does take practice and some people learn faster than others. Great video!
