I have an 86. Same as this one. Crew cab, XL and dually C6 transmission. 118k miles on it. Found it after sitting 15 years without starting. The owner sold it for 500 bucks. It was non-op in the DMV system. Only a couple of dings and interior is mint. Drained both tanks, changed the oil and filters. It started right up. Rebuilt the brakes, replaced belts hoses ect… converted the AC Freon. Best thing was adding the gear vendors under/over drive. Engine purrs along at 70 mph with a 4.10 rear. Glad you got yours running.

That's awesome! I haven't been able to do much with this since I made these videos. The steering column is sitting on a shelf in my office. Lol
@scoieb Жыл бұрын
@@WarpedLegacy aw man. That column must be really buggered up. Well when you do get around to fixin it up, with that and just normal maintenance stuff, that truck will run a long time. I’d take mine anywhere. Take care buddy.

Hooray! Glad it's running! Bring on the major restoration! And next up, get that sweet old van running!
@WarpedLegacy6 жыл бұрын
If anyone does anything with the van it will be my brother. As for the truck restoration I am a bit torn. First off I don't have the $ for a full restoration... Second.. my dad always beat up this truck. It's always been a work truck. IDK how much I actually want restored. In some ways I kinda want it to be that old Rusty truck that will just never die!

Got to love the starter on that international harvester IDI! You can't kill these old IDI engines.

I have an 86 F350 dually 6.9 just like this one...previous owner messed the engine up..has low compression and burns more oil than diesel fuel..

Wd40 works great for cold starting old diesels.

I wouldn't "pretty up" a truck like that... But I *WOULD* replace the bed if absolutely necessary. A dump bed would be an incredible addition. Roll bars, off-road lights, a BIIG @$$ed winch on the front... all possibilities for a machine such as that. I'll be waiting to see what you'll do... Boo Yah!
@WarpedLegacy6 жыл бұрын
Lol... You have a better vision for this thing than I do! Lol.. I can't decide whether I just want to get it working and treat the body to stop (slow down) the rust from getting worse. Or if I want to make it like I remember it as a kid.

Breaks, replace all flexible lines, those go bad especially if it sits. Being Michigan could have blown hardline, but less likely.
@WarpedLegacy6 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'm gonna replace as much as possible with metal lines. The place it broke shouldn't be hard to find... It went from pretty solid to absolutely nothing... So it's probably squirting!

@@idiguy6677 forget more truck used to be installed up north with a cold start button, which was ether(starting fluid). Sorry sir you're not correct. Diesel mechanics all over the planet use starting fluid on diesels.

Well, if rusty bolts are a Pain in the Ass to remove, it must be structurally sound.

didn't know you could use "start ya bastard" on a diesel! also singularly depressing, as I don't think 1985 was all that long ago.......
@WarpedLegacy6 жыл бұрын
It's a fairly universal tool! Lol... And 85 was only 33 years ago!
