Man! Back when I had my 91 f250 lariat the only person that had a half assed turbo for my truck was Banks. And he wanted a million dollars for a tiny bit of HP. Glad to see other folks makin stuff for these engines. 7.3 is a great motor.

That is a really nice truck my brother has a 1985 Ford F350 Dually 4 door crew cab he has a 69 idi it's an automatic he wants to put a 7-3 IDI in converted to a 5-speed and he wants to put two turbos on it and make it a twin turbo IDI really love the truck

Nice build up. I remember back when I did my IDI nothing was really available. There was a company called DPS that I got some parts from and had issues with. In the end I finally got my truck running and it ran strong but my DPS pump would shut it down randomly at times and not allow start up until it cooled down like it was worn out or something even though it had been rebuilt. My cousin swapped in a powerstoke for me so I plan on running that but I have my old idi stuff and I was thinking about sending my pump to r&d to see if it can be redone right. I watched your other videos and it looks like the truck runs great. It’s nice to see someone stick with the idi and build it up to work right. My dads old if I had over 400k miles on it and we were running 12psi on an old ats kit for years before he finally hurt it on a big hill loaded. Great motors and great trucks. Your video gave me the idi bug again for the simplicity and affordability.

Shit dude that thing is a beast. "Mint!" Any plans to put it on a dyno? I'm really interested to hear power numbers. I've been geeking out on these motors since I bought an old UHaul box truck with one in it. Long story short, after I'm done messing with the box truck, I want to do a 6.9 or 7.3 idi build for a pickup, but it definitely needs more power than stock. With everybody doing 12 valve swaps I love seeing someone doing power mods to the idi. I didn't know you unicorns existed.

Sweet rig you got! Love my idi with the zf5 behind it! Can’t wait to turbo mine! I’m curious, did you have the heads resurfaced and whatnot as well? Did Justin sleeve the block and do the machining work for you? Are you running his turbo pistons and rods?

I had a company promar do the sleeves and assemble the bottom end with Justin's cam and total seal rings. They have a supplier that sells them turbo pistons and rods, and yes heads were resurfaced and new seals and com 910 valvesprings

Impressive story and build. Helps give me some good food for thought on my departed fathers old truck I don't have the heart to get rid of. Fuck you make me cringe working in a shop with flip flops on! Man thats foolish. I have been wearing steel toes since I was 12 and have the leather missing from the toe of one of every pair since (and thats 40 years ago) to prove its a good practice.

I bought a 93 idi that had a turbo and intercooler off of a Cummins on it . I pulled it and going to see how it runs before putting it into the f450. One thing it has that I can't figure out was that every intake port has a pipe fitting in it . For what? . Truck also had a propane tank in rear . Truck was a 4 door 350

Hey brotha, just rebuild my idi. arbs studs, R&D torke cam, mine was a stock non turbo so adding turbo i have a used sidewinder but if theres a better one you think would be better ,added electric fuel pump, rebuilt injector pump, What do you suggest as far as upgrades? Going into crewcab dually.

Very nice truck! Did you go with lower compression pistons with the addition of the turbo kit? I have read you can run into issues boosting N/A idis because of their high compression ratios.

Nope stock compression, its seen 25-30psi no issues so far

wait a sec....i was mistaken to see in the stud install an impact gun used to bottom the studs. i did not see that , right? the fast forward was too fast to be sure.

Its a 12v gun on the lowest setting to speed up the process. The block was basically brand new since it came back from the machine shop. They were all checked by hand before putting the heads on, 6k miles later and they are still holding up just fine

Man that turbo spools fast. What kinda of pressure are you building? Max boast at 1500rpm? Low smoke too. I like it. I have the R&D stage one and it doesn't spool like that until it's under load.

It's an hx35/40 hybrid with a wicked wheel, It makes around 25spi and she starts making boost around 1500 and builds it quickly

Its a "90cc pump" but when flow tested produced a little over 100cc

This really isn't a lot this is a bunch of different parts put together but yes you can turbo your idi this way, or you can get a bank's or hypermax kit

Needs a clutch that can handle that also i was afraid of high egts then with towing, but classic diesel designs just posted a new system they are making so you can change the fuel rate on the fly with a dial in the cab so then ill be able to scale it back for towing if my egts are too high

hx35 "big turbo" That exhaust housing and turbine is way undersized.

Its an hx 35/40 hybrid. exhaust wheel is hx40 compressor is hx35. Its has 18cm exhaust housing. Plenty big enough

An HX35/40 hybrid is a 40 compressor on a 35 cartridge. So you put a 35 cold side on an hx40..? Seems kinda counterintuitive, the 40 would be better suited because of the trim on the holset compressors.

Not necessarily works really good and gives me 25lbs of boost pretty quick with my egs maxing out at 900-950

Didnt say it wouldnt work, just saying its not great sizing. Having played with some holsets compared to the kit turbos and BWs i can confirm the SXe's are well worth their reletively cheap price. The sxe 362/67/.91 i have on there now is a monster, but wish i did go with the 73mm turbine. Cant decide whether to stick an even tighter housing on it and wastegate it, or go bigger. Although now that dual disks are out, i might just put an S200 on there with a 369 blowing into it.
