Tip: When putting it back together, I recommend putting the mute button in *before* the volume knob. That way you can look at the point where it snaps in and make sure it's aligned right.

Not really. I am really lousy at soldering. You can get a solder gun pretty cheap and there are lots of videos out there that will show you the basics. I think practice and it's not hard to do. Just takes a certain touch to be good at it. Crappy soldering will work most times, too. :)

my blue yeti USB connector seems to be different from all the others I've seen, it has pins and the cord has holes the pins go into. all of the repair videos I've seen feature USB connectors with holes, so I ordered the one from the link in the description and the cord doesn't fit. where can I get a cord with pins or a connector with pins?

In theory, you could probably change the connector from USB Mini-B to USB C just by soldering the right lines to the right places. I'm not an electrical engineer so don't take my word on that though

True I think, but I think there are less connections in micro or mini than in C.

@@DarinBeard I believe if you connect the right 4 lines of a USB 2.0 port to the right 4 pins out of all the pins on the the usb c port it works. Same thing applies with USB 3.0 except 4 more data lines (6 data lines, 2 power lines).

Hi Darin, I replaced my USB Port and the red light comes on but my computer not longer recognized my microphone? It says "USB Device not recognized". I never had this issue before the replacement. Any idea on what to do? Thank you.

My guess is you didn't quite get all five connections in their place perfectly. I would open it back up and look closely at them. I used a magnifying glass to get a good look at mine.

It has to match the board as far as connection order so it is somewhat specific.

Yellow pins? I am not sure what that is. Do you mean the pins connected to the board or the pins inside the plug? Either way it's probably gonna take replacing it.

What was the original problem? I have one and I get a constant high pitch whine/buzzing when using it. Not sure if it’s the plug that is the problem or not.

The plug has a very weak connection to the board and any stress on it causes the connection to break loose. There was no noise, just nothing at all.

I spent 2 weeks trying to fix mine. The solder won't fully come out no matter how much I heat It or use flux. Does anyone have advice. I got about half of it out but not the full solder for each hole.

The wick has to make contact with the solder. That's the only advice I can give without more knowledge of your situation.

the circuit board has holes that match the replacement plug which has little "feet" on it where the holes are. I just put the feet into the holes and soldered them in.

So let's summarize...You don't list the part needed to make the repair. You fade to black when the critical steps of removing and replacing occur and you cut away for the soldering because you are really bad at it. Perhaps you should go back to filming your cat.

Ha. it's funny that I see this from time to time. Yes, you have to have the tools to do the work. I assume that MOST people that come and watch DIY videos have at least basic tools and equipment or the DIY part would seem out of reach. But just like all woodworking, maker, or DIY projects on KZbin, tools are required to do the task. Full disclosure, I had to buy the solder wick to do this project. I had the iron and solder. But it was still cheaper than a new mic even if I had to buy tools and all.

@@xeph3232 I had to use pliers as well. I had the blacked-out version and the buttons only come off after a bit of tugging with pliers. I would recommend using a cloth so you don't tear the plastic too much.

That sounds like another issue. Maybe a bad board or something? I am not an expert, just a DIY guy who fixed the plug on my son's mic. Maybe contact Blue and see if there are service places near you or if you can send it in to them. They would be much better at it than me.
