I’m at a loss on the trivia questions tonight. And like you I’ve never heard of a state muffin! So glad you mentioned the milk and sugar! When I was growing up my mother would make cobblers (mostly wild blackberry cobbler - I never heard of any blueberries growing in southern Oklahoma!) she would serve it with “sweet cream” I thought she must be the only person anywhere who served cobblers with sweet cream! Great video! Really enjoying this series!

Blueberry story: when I lived in WV, my Mama and I found a big patch of wild blueberries at an old school house that had been abandoned when the coal played out in the area. We never revealed our source (you’d have thought we were raising drugs.) We fed them, weeded them, froze them, and canned them.) I so miss her. When I moved to Florida, I found a farm that grew blue berries as a crop. The family had been in the nursery business for years. They sold me 3 plants of different varieties so they wouldn’t all come on at the same time. They grew to about 5’ high. The fight was on to keep the cardinals out. Solution was, our old blind hunting dog would sleep in the shade of plants. You can just hear that hound dog voice guarding his future muffins. 🦋

Oh no, only one more day. That went by quickly. This looks amazing. Love the berry to dough ratio in this one. Love a cobbler with lots of fruit. I grew up in a family that did cobbler with cream. I thought that was just how you ate cobbler.

Love your cobbler recipe. My parents were from S.E. Missouri . When they ate cobbler, they always put it in a bowl and poured pet milk (evaporated milk)over it. So that is how I still do it, occasionally. It is so good. It reminded me of Tom’s parents with the milk. I love those old memories. I try to keep them alive, if I can. 😘

I grew up with my dad always putting milk on cobbler. I always remember eating cake for bedtime snack. Yes with milk over it. I figure the cake had been sitting out for several hours or even from the day before so milk over it softened the cake if a little stale.

You have inspired me to make cobbler tonight! Or. Maybe muffins! Your memory of your parents putting ill and sugar on their cobbler reminded me of how we ate pudding! Mom would pour a bit of milk ( and back then it was yummy whole milk) on my chocolate pudding! Yum! It might come from the depression and we didn’t have a lot of money. But I was never cold or hungry so we were rich!
