HOORAY! A wedding coordinator finally giving a shit that same sex couples exist. The 'bride and groom', 'mr and mrs' stuff drives me nuts. My wife to be and I have had trouble even finding a 'Mrs & Mrs' cake topper. Thank you for this - it's lovely to have support when every other wedding I've been to has been basically the same.

Hi Lauren, really glad you’ve done this video! I got married in July, and as a gay couple (2 men) when we started planning the wedding we were surprised that most things are geared towards brides and grooms. That’s not to say suppliers are excluding same sex couples but just having ‘Bride’s name and Groom’s name’ on their contact forms, or guides/articles/videos talking about brides and grooms only for example. We also had quite a lot of questions about who was walking down the aisle, whether one of us would wear a dress and do we still kiss at the end of the ceremony 😂.People aren’t doing this on purpose, most of us grew up thinking of marriage as between a man and a woman, and gay marriage is still very new. They just haven’t thought to start using more inclusive language. I would encourage suppliers to start thinking more openly and being more inclusive, as it does help couples like us to see ourselves represented and part of the club. Peace and love, Joe x

Oh Joe thanks so much for sharing your experience. I totally agree. It’s something I myself and still learning daily. Look at the name of my channel for example and my early videos, I unfortunately can’t change the name, but I have absolutely changed my language with who I’m speaking to. It goes to show how we all need to consider our language and the fact that that love is love and marriages are about 2 people no matter gender. ❤️. Xxx

It's crazy how often venues would boast of their 'Bridal suite' to my partner and I when we looked around venues 😂. It obviously didn't bother us, as 90% of weddings are for Brides and Grooms, but making the effort to call it the 'Preparation room' actually sealed the deal for us booking our venue! In terms of traditions, we're are walking down the aisle together, hand in hand :) We are also getting ready together in the morning.

I am in a same sex relationship and me and my partner are planning our wedding. I think the biggest thing we are coming across are logistical issues - a lot of venues have bridal suites, but we would both like to get ready in different places so who gets the suite? My partner would like to do a lot of traditional things whereas I am not so bothered about them, and a lot of them have been tricky to navigate for her. We're excited though for the day!

Thanks for doing this I understand your being very kind. However I think there is a big difference especially not being allowed to marry in a church which has made this the hardest process of places saying no

I can totally understand that. I guess with it being the most ‘traditional’ place of marriage it is still very much stuck in those ways. I absolutely understand that if a church is special to you that that must be really hard. ❤️

My partner and I want to be married rather than a civil partnership…we also want a celebrant rather than a registrar at the ceremony. My understanding is that we’d get “legally” wedded at the registry office then have the ceremony at a later date? Is this right? It’s all so overwhelming and confusing! I’m also paranoid because we won’t get a rehearsal the day before I don’t think 😅

That’s right yes. If you want a celebrant to do the ceremony on your wedding day, you will need to do a registry office for the legal bit on another day 😘 x

sorry this is unrelated but as you mentioned the giving away - what do you think of it, do most couples still do it or what are the alternatives? getting married next year and unsure what to do with this...

Great topic! :) Please do some videos on bridal makeup too; I know that some things like spf in makeup or setting sprays with shimmer in them, can result in disappointing photos so would love to learn what's safe to do!
