my artblock issues usually only mean that i cant get myself to draw, i nearly always have ideas i want to put down, but starting projects makes me feel like im in danger of dying with how bad it feels, a combination of fear of failure, perfectionism, procrastination, doom scrolling and general life stress makes it feel like powerlifting to simply pick up a pencil

I think a main thing that affected most people is the just humiliation and it’s why people turn away from art. A principle to go by is that to encourage people to art no matter what, but still constructively criticize art to help people grow. I see people say someone’s art is “bad” since they’re new to it, and it did happen to me. Like Blue said, be kind to yourself, but also be kind to others!!

hey there, i just found ur channel. I just got back into drawing and i am not bad but i always sucked at poses and whatnot. your anatomy and shape videos have helped me so much. just after trace practicing anatomy poses by deconstructing them into shapes once i was able to construct a simple slighty turned pose by just thinking how the shapes face and finding my own "building block" technique that works for me. seriously, im enjoying art again and cant wait to make the OC i have in mind.. tysm!!! great tips, and to any fellow artists, yes, the tracing over poses and deconstructing them with shapes and blocks helps a TON. now i can use these shapes to put them however i want, and to learn a new pose if you cant figure it out, you just gotta look how the shape is positioned.. its such an awesome concept in drawing i didnt even know existed, muscle memo is truly amazing

I find drawing fanart of characters I've drawn before helps. If it's something you really love it sparks your interest and the fact you've done it before mitigates the anxiety of "I don't know how to draw them" and if it looks good by the end now you're confident in your abilities again! I drew Angel Dust from Hazbin Hotel like 20 times, drew a couple other Hazbin characters, and next thing I knew I had 3 new OCs.

5:28 I feel that this piece of advice doesn’t just apply for artists, it applies to people in general. There is a lot of times where I feel that I don’t want to do something and take that as a sign of my brain telling me a break and ooh just sit down for a bit and scroll through your phone. I need to get up even if it takes a lot of mental energy to do something I need to get stuff done regardless. It’s like PE or working out at the gym. I don’t like to run or do exercise that much but I need to do it cause it’s healthy for my body. Our mind can be tricksters and can never be trusted.

Thanks 3 mins 1 seconds into the vid I just realized I'm procrastinating and the best way to get an idea on what to draw is just to do it, yell at myself (mentally) to get a grip of that pencil and make a mark on the page. I'f i'm ever going to make a vid on art blocc I would make a sort of funny vid subconsciously making people happy or in a "laughing state" to kind of get them to agree, get off youtube, turn off their pc, and mark on the page.

S0 yeah i like art block because i can rest and do nothing and still progress. It all works because when i have art block i still continue to watch my favourites artists, youtubers, etc, so my brain remembers the things i like in their drawing and whrn i finally get out of art block i try all of the things i liked not even remembering it. A writer's block is God's way of telling you that what you're writing is not only boring Him, but also boring you. It's His way of telling you to enlighten yourself to come up with something that is compelling; something that isn't just a regurgitation of what others have done. What you're writing needs that hook that has an end goal, something that has an end conclusion that ties the entire novel together. It's how we got greats such as artists like Da Vinci, Van Gogh, Picasso, and writers such as Tolkien, Stephen King, and J.K. Rowling. The best way to get out of a writer's block for me has always been to examine concept art. What is your story about? Is it a scifi? Then you should consider looking at any scifi art that looks remotely like your art. As an artist myself, though I frown upon using AI, which I don't, I do find that just having copilot create a room or a character based off my novel description of a character helps me to put two-and-two together, and helps give me a visual reference, which you have no idea how much that fuels my brain. Like writing a war story set in WW2, you would look at actual pictures of trench warfare, youtube videos talking about war and showing things like that, to help you get a handle on what your world will look like. So for example: let's say it's a war story in the 1940s, so you look at trenches--their cramped, filled with destruction, and dirt. Now let's look at the leisure activities that people did in the 1940s; smoking, tv, music, ect. (What shows were popular around that time? What was a popular cigarette? What was their lingo; how did they talk? What music was around during that time, versus what's the atmosphere the characters are in now?) So all of that helps fuel your entire scene for writing. Let's come up with a scene based off all we've read and seen in depictions of the 1940s; WW2, smoking, tv, music, and war. "The boys in the trench had Jimmy Grier's College Rhythm on the track, while Jimmy their grenadier smoked a Stripe. It was a play on his father, and the men had a good laugh; he was always goin' on about how he was set up to go to college. Times like this made him wonder if this whole war was a play for The Three Stoogies. Outside the trenches, however, there were young men dead; bodies from the soldiers too tall for the trench, picked off by the Jerrys, for not getting to their rhythm in time." So analyzing all of this, we have the music, the scene, the 1940s traditions, the tv show, and a bunch of inspirations we gathered by looking at all the concepts we found. All of these things help your mind to paint a clearer picture of both what matters to you, and what kind of story you want to paint. You can do the same thing to any genre you're writing, fiction fantasy, suspense, horror, etc. Keep doing this and the ideas in your head will be clawing their way out, and you'll find yourself writing 40 pages in a single day. :) tldr?; Just use concept art and look at art and listen to music to help you write.
