I like this property much more than Long Skinny. But you will have to manage the goats in winter; I grew up in Northern Wisconsin, and winters near Lake Superior can get crazy. We used to bring ours down into the basement through the bilco (we built a ramp) and we had stalls down there for them when the weather was just too unmanageable (like digging a tunnel to the barn haha!) Welcome Derek to MI. I live on the West edge of the city of Flint. When my husband was alive he would say he would be happy just touring the many miles of shores here & visit camping grounds. There are more miles doing that than traveling South to vacation in FL. Our weather is different but I was born here so it is normal & the different seasons are beautiful. Again welcome. I'm from Northern Michigan, up on Lake Superior. I love the wooded area with lake access that you now own. Your plan is excellent, especially since you all are willing to be flexible as life changes happen. The only thing to manage are the mosquitos. 😅

We're near Tawas. We have ticks in the Spring and early Summer. I don't find them on the goats, but I do on the sheep. Hay is plentiful here. Summer is shorter. If you're in the snowbelt, be ready to snowrake your roof.

Same thing we did for our current Northeast Texas farm. I made a full bid offer just two days after it listed without seeing it. We traveled the next weekend and fell in love with our new home. There were two other offers made but ours was the only full priced offer. We've never had a single moment of doubt that it was a great deal.

I don't know how this is the first video I am seeing of this awesome channel! We moved to rurral VA from the suburbs of NYC, and we love it! I do like that Michegan has no ticks! I actually wanted to look in Michegan, it was just a bit TOO far from extended family! I ADORE dairy goats, my friend who moved to VA at the same time, has an enormous dairy goat farm, she breeds nubian and lamanchas, so I get some of her, "leftovers", as she keeps the very best in her breeding program, shows them, and so forth. So I have 2 does, and 3 wethers(sp?), and this next fall I will breed my does, they were late births from this spring.

I think for the fallen tree, it might be worth buying a harbor freight extending electric pole saw? That'd let you cut through the dead section or the bark without being anywhere near it. I'm just worried the weight on the sapling and maple might leave a hole in the tree cover if it doesn't fall over soon!

MI should be an easier place to raise goats. AR is brutal with parasites. After several years of raising goats, and lots of selective breeding, I finally have a parasite resistant herd. I can't imagine bring goats from the desert to AR.
