I like how you can hear his weak “god” at the pitch shift. It really shows that rather you’re a high band geek or a professional dci judge, that is one of the coolest things in any dci show ever

@@Redheadeddude41glissandos are really hard to mic. They’re way softer for several reasons, and I’ve even seen indoor percussion groups struggle to get them to come through. When you’ve got such a massive sound going on around you it’s even more difficult to pull in.

This show was held against Feliniesque and OOTW, two EXTREMELY technically challenging books with the BD show in, my opinion, the most talented performance in DCI history. To say this came in silver is an achievement.

Has anyone noticed that DCI does more closeups than usual when televised (showing my age here) or streamed. There needs to more high shots, shots from the back, and side angle shots. Superior performance... Bluuuuuuuuuuuuuue!

Fantastic! How were you able to configure the high cam and brass judge audio and camera angle to create a video for your KZbin channel? I’m trying to do the same - not sure if my software is incompatible with it or not.

This is like listening to someone adore the execution of architectural elements without ever knowing what the building is for. "Good job creating that cupola!" (Wait, what style is the building? What does the building do? What's its purpose? Is it a church? A crematorium? A whore house?) How can you praise the architectural components if they don't coalesce into a meaningful whole? In this case, how can this judge talk about technique, phrasing and the arc of interpretation of the music if there's no specified meaning underneath? If there's no social context or purpose? What is the subject and theme of this particular production and how does the musical interpretation support it?

Here are the songs that were used in this show: Uffe’s Woodshop - by Tyondai Braxton to wALK Or ruN in wEst harlem - by Andy Akiho The Hymn of Axciom - by Vienna Teng Platinum Rows - by Tyondai Braxton According to the Bluecoats' program coordinator Dean Westman, this show used music from young American composers who are artists who “view the world from a different angle,” which made the music appropriate to be “tilted.” More from the DCI website: Westman continued, “These composers worry not about categories and narrative. They compose music through atmosphere, energy, and sound. They create high voltage minimalism, somber songs and shimmering textures full of electronic color. This new generation of composers redefines music for a 21st Century audience. They give us a glimpse of how modern technology and contemporary sounds blend with the rules and traditions of ‘classical’ music and how that music can cause art to lean forward and create something powerful and new.”
