So I was the Autumn Leaves/Dry Cleaner/DoubleC soloist in this and let me tell you, there were AT LEAST 20 of us that could’ve played any of the solos/lead parts. It was awesome playing with the Young Guns ,Old Coats and all the Scream Team(soloists), but I must say that the hang was the best part. My wife asked me what it was like and I said it was like hanging out with 400 of me from different ages of my life. A very unique experience that I won’t ever forget. 🎺💙🍁🍁

I feel like if you’re gonna do an alumni performance of the Bluecoats’ history, there are three things you just CAN’T forget to do (in no particular order) 1. Autumn Leaves 2. The wink at the end of Great Gig in the Sky 3. The pitch bend

I've been teaching for almost 30 year and being able to put the bass drum on again and throw down again was absolutely amazing. Four of the eight bass drummers, including myself, were over 50 but I felt like a 21 year old once we started playing. The parts were so well written and difficult but everyone came so well prepared. Thirty minutes into the first practice things were already locking in like we had been playing together forever. (On a side note, my son who is a GOLD alumni, filled one of about a dozen spots covered by non-bluecoats.. played bass for an alum that quit... so fun to have this experience side by side with him). What a blast.

What didn’t get mentioned here is because an earlier performance was rained out…this was their only performance and only had 10 days to practice. It goes to show you that all the hard work you put in even year past becomes memory. My kid marched ‘16, ‘17 & 18 Bloo. Watching that alumni performance for her in ‘22 was yet another phenomenal proud moment. Loved watching you two perform as both Bluecoats and Blue Devils. Best of luck on your futures!

One of my favorite moments of SCVC was getting to do our encore run right before the alumni corps and I remember that I mistook the BIS time and I accidentally went into the tunnel while they were playing autumn leaves and that was one of the most magical moments I’ll ever have just getting to hear it that close and feel and see the emotion. Definitely somewhere I desire to be in the future.

Your right in that the renewal of friendships in an alumni corps is the most wonderful thing. The stories and meeting some of the people who were part of the lore of the corps is special. Especially as we age. My experience of marching with the Cavaliers alumni corps was a highlight of my marching experience. Now 15 years past that experience only leaves a profound understanding that as we age, we will lose those who we had a second chance to call brother. I am forever grateful that I was able to be a part of it. With so many drum corps folding these days, I am thankful I was able to participate back in the day. By the way, I was taken back by this performance even in a video. I recognized almost every tune,

Yes. The encore was great. Hope you had a chance to see it later. There are other posts that show it with encore. There is also one KZbin with the sound from alumni but video in sync of clips from the original shows! Thank you both! I marched in 75 and 76 with Guardsmen from Illinois. Bluecoats fairly new then, but we could see their potential. In all eras very hard work, and dedication by members and staff. Sadly my corps folded years ago. I live now in Arizona. I went to see DCI finals live in 1991. My Guardsmen made finals at least three times. Brings back fond memories. Oh try to check out 27th lancers alumni show from mid '90s Thanks again....... ... Loved this performance! I love all alumni corps shows. I can’t wait for the next ones. I actually hope BD can field one someday. As for the helmets being “menacing,” I actually thought that Bloo’s head gear was the least intimidating and even bordering on silly. But that’s because it just reminds me of old school British police.
@samsignorelli9 ай бұрын
We did a BD/SCV alum brass ensemble in 07 ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/e4jNe4tjlL2Eg9U I was the one who suggested it to the BD org...at least as a solo BD 50th anniversary gig). So long as Dave Gibbs is in charge of BD, a true alum corps will never happen. Hate to say it about my own corps, but they're a little TOO tight on protecting the brand. The only time we alums played by ourselves was at the picnic at the Stanford show...all other runs were with the BD/SCV A corps members.
@fordies686 ай бұрын
If it was copied from the Phantom Regiments' helmet, then you are correct, it is copied from the old British policeman head gear. I saw a video somewhere that explains where a member, either staff or marching, came over to the UK for a holiday and returned with the helmet. From there a mould was made and then the helmets were produced.

They did the full exhibition at San Antonio's Alamodome on Nov 6 2023. They blew the roof off of the dome! The UIL State highschool competitive marching bands ate it up!! Take a look when you can. If you cant find that check out tge one fron oct 28th 2023 there home game performance UNT has one of the best music programs and there are plenty of DCI students who are enrolled there. Other than Band Nerd Anthem Creep (sorry, never liked it) and "Fight-ah still remains" (Paul Simon is not British, he's from New York) this is imo the second best alumni show all time, with only 2006 Madison Scouts Alumni Reunion Project better by a nose. The drum line is actually very clean for 20 snares and pays true respect to their return to the top 12 in the late 80's with the same dude playing the same solo the same way 35 years prior. Moving on to the modern era, it's impressive to think of many geezers learning and pulling off some of the complex stuff. Adding some snare to make even more (24, 25?) what they're playing is perfect for older players- the Top-Secret level solo from '87-88 ( and probably cleaner than 1988 when they tried to have that many, which comes off as a bit of redemption). And then, Tilt. Just one of the all time best designed and produced shows, where almost anyone who could pick up a horn probably could have been a part of it. I should know, having arranged a suit of pieces my corps once played- 3 pieces, The 90's, The 80's, and The 70's. Though the Blue Devils are full of one-and-dones there were also many people who marched many years, at least back in the day. The closest I could find online to a BD Reunion was a sort-of mini reunion they had which I don't think made it beyond California and certainly not to DCI, but that was in conjunction with Vanguard I think? For the 75th, which will be coming up 8 years from now in 2032, it wouldn't be such a bad thing to hear the 1994 intro and of course we all know the One-Eyed Sailor, and really there's no shortage of music. Carolina Crown will certainly do something at some point, just as Star of Indiana had their reunion in 2010. Their 50th is in 2040, a ways off- but drum corps don't have to wait for a round number. The Madison Alumni Project in the Scouts 68th anniversary, a meaningless number, but they had members from every single year including 1938.
