Why do trumpet players take so much time off of playing

it’s very easy for a lead trumpet to get tired from playing so they need to take a small break for blood flow to return

To prevent death of the lips and not chop out

i would guess for him specifically, he needs to preserve his chops for the high notes; better to not play for a bit than to mess up a screamer solo because your chops are too shot to hit the notes or maybe its a bluecoats thing where like 1/3 of the trumpets rotate to take breaks on certain passages
