The "... aren't you gonna say something to that guy?" phrase is reminiscent of David Dockery playing drums to the Pepe Silvia scene in It's Always Sunny. So cool.

24:56 you’ll notice in the front ensemble they have the two drumset players spit solos back and forth! which i never really noticed until today but after i did i replayed it at least 20 times and it’s such an amazing well played back and forth between them! It’s best to listen with headphones to truly appreciate and hear it.

I don’t think it’s a controversial statement to say front ensemble is the nervous system of a modern drum corps show. Even in the context of just any generalized show, think about where the majority of mood changes in a show start... either the pit or vocals like 80% of the time. Connective tissue for sure.

I get I probably come off as a troll, and I assure you, at least in premise, I'm not. You guys come off as painfully supplicative to Tom. I get the fact Tom writes for a contending group, one that just won the high drum trophy. But your supplication comes off as sycophantism I get you're trying to grow a channel and having an A list dude on your channel and it's awesome. I enjoyed watching this despite the fact I disdain the show in reference. But this is the guy's first drum trophy (reasonably arguably very underserved --- hate BD, fine, definitely should have gone to Boston then). You guys have goo'd over previous BD lines. They're literally the most winning corp ever, and fine, don't agree with that, it's undeniable they have the highest level of talent each year. Here, I think BC"s show is awful, but I don't fault the players. They did an excellent job. But BD...it's simply a much higher level of demand and delivery.

Borderline sychophantism? A bit extreme don’t you think? Mike and Evan are passionate fans of drum corps, as we all are since we are watching this video. They are rightly excited to be having a conversation with the arranger for the 2022 Fred Sanford award-winning ensemble. They were similarly just as excited to talk to Tom Aungst about the Cadets, and Mike McIntosh about the Cavaliers. The point of this reaction video isn’t to critique Tom’s work, or commentate on his artistic choices; it’s to let him explain the reasoning behind the musical decisions he made, and hopefully allow for the audience to appreciate the amount of thought, planning, and depth the program has. I know that I am much more appreciative of the musical package, since I am hearing things differently than I did before, and noticing small details that I otherwise missed. And since it seems that Blue Devils were your favorite ensemble this year, I don’t doubt that Mike and Evan would be equally as excited to sit down and have a chat with Dave Glyde about the battery arrangement, or Scott Johnson about the ensemble’s programming choices.

Our goal with these videos is to help bring to light the nuance and creativity of these designers and share the knowledge they have. Perhaps their design methods and challenges help young designers in their own growth of the activity and the programs they work with. While not everything done from every arranger is “my cup of tea” I still respect and appreciate it. Since you seem to be heavily biased towards BD and a like them the most (which is perfectly valid), we have reached out to both Rudy (running the the battery) and Scott, and plan to have them on, it just hasn’t worked out yet, since Rudy lives in California and Scott was in Tokyo for bit. Hopefully you can enjoy these other stylistic choices from other groups without having to love them the most. -Evan

@@agedoutpodcast and @Drumline Archives You're right. I agree, my comment is off point. I apologize! I did find it very interesting listening to Rarick's explanation of compositional concepts and specific parts. I guess my disdain for the show and the fact they placed how they did gets the best of me from time to time. Though I don't always agree with your opinions, I always enjoy your content! RE: Scojo and Rudy - that would be awesome! Any chance you could get Dave Glyde? I'd love to hear his commentary since he wrote the show.
