Excellent video! Always remember to tether the seat(upper part) to the foot rest(lower part)! You don’t want that dropping down the tree! Hunting is an age old art! Even the best hunters still learn something every time there in the woods! No animal is worth you’re, or someone else’s life. Stay safe out there! Best of luck to you all!

Just slipped in my climber this past weekend. Thankfully I had the top and bottom tethered and had a harness holding me to the tree. I was able to catch the top of the climber because the harness caught me, and I was able to pull both the top and bottom back up and get myself secured back to the tree. I tell you what though, even being secured to the tree it's still pretty terrifying when you do slip. Get in a little early, double check everything, and take your time getting up the tree. Things can change pretty quickly. Nice video, I think you hit everything pretty well, and were more adamant about safety and double checking then a lot of other videos I have watched.

One tip I don't think I heard in the video is once you're up make sure your stand is level on the tree. An angle up the tree if you step to far back itll slip on you. I've had that happen a few times when I first started using a climber.

Great video for helping people. A lot of people buy equipment and have no clue how to properly use it. Great information for any hunter.

John, yea I hear people talk about using climbers all the time and they either are doing it wrong or in a very unsafe way. My original video was going to be 40 mins long but that is just to long to keep people’s attention but I could talk about every aspect of the climber for hours. I noticed there wasn’t too many videos about this that were good so I figured I would try my hand. Thanks for watching!

Good video. Watching as a refresher as the season approaches here in IL. I’m primarily using a hang on stand this year now that I have my own property to hunt. I had the platform of my climber go out from underneath me a few years ago. Had to do a pull up and fish the platform back up with my toes. Shot a big buck 10 minutes later but scared me half to death.

Thanks Bradley for joining the channel, I’m glad you found the video useful, I’ve been using a climber for probably going on 20 years now and they still scare me from time to time. I had many close accidents when I was a teenager, so I knew passing on some of my experiences would hopefully help someone out. Good luck with your climber, get on some big deer this year brother!

Good video overall. I would suggest reducing your tether line slack once in position, ready to hunt. If you were to fall in the example, you would have a tough time getting back on your stand.

This is an old model of the open shot, these seats did have issues related to safety so summit switched o er to the padded seat unfortunately.

Buying a used harness is a HUGE no no. Rest of video is good but as safety goes. Buying a used harness to save 40-50$ is not worth it

Older summits you could adjust while in stand it's about 3 videos on YT that demonstrate how to do it, but it's at your own risk.

Whats the best type of tree to use for the climbing tree stands? Hard wood or soft wood????

Did you add that flip up seat? I have the hazmore net seat. Bit that's pretty cool too will it fit the viper sd? Or is that bigger?
@bluecollaroutdoors5556
@bluecollaroutdoors5556 2 жыл бұрын
Travis, the seat came on the stand from Summit, it’s the sd open front climber that they discontinued last year I believe. They still make a sd open shot aluminum climber that has a flip up seat but it has a different design. I don’t think the seat would fit the viper though. Yea the flip up seat make climbing super easy because it can move out of the way. Hope this helps brother!

@bluecollaroutdoors5556
@bluecollaroutdoors5556 Жыл бұрын
This stand is from about 5 years ago, back then the open shot had this style seat. It was a bad design so they changed it up. The bolts holding the seat on tend to come loose and the seat potentially can fall off.

I’m 245 now was 305 at one point, I’ve always hunted from climbers, I’m also 6’1 which helped to distribute the weight more when climbing, it takes some practice if you aren’t using a sit and climb, but just a little bit like doing crunches and dips, you’ll feel it the next day.

Do you know If the Viper cushion seat would fit one of these flip seat styles? Someone near me has one for sale, but I’d like to be able and swap seats if need.

Ideally you want the stand to be level when you reach the desired height, too far leaning up or forward could lead to the stand potentially slide on you, but typically if you keep constant pressure on the base of the stand you will be fine.

@@bluecollaroutdoors5556 oh no I don't disagree. I've used a climber my entire 20 plus years of hunting. I had a buddy wanting to try out climbers and I couldn't explain it clearly to him without showing and actually recommended to him your video. Other than the difference of me angling mine down I climb the exact same as you. Great video
