Great video Jason. I used the Pro Plugger last year. I purchased 144 celebration bermuda plugs on line for some bare spots. I used a small amount of Wakefield biochar at the base of the hole, and scant amount of starter fertilizer, then put the commercial plug in. I also mixed up a 70/30 mix of potting soil and play sand in a garden cart, as the Pro Plugger is a 2 inch diameter and the plugs were 1 x 1 inch to center the plug. I had 100% take. I also did the autotransplant method as you described, along with the biochar and starter fert. Also had a 100% take. This method is guaranteed to work as long as you have enough water, either by rain or irrigation. Keep up the great content.

I've tried that. I've edged my sidewalk with a shovel. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. The problem is it may be shady near the walk. Patch a hole in your yard in full sun. It dies and becomes a dirt spot.

FYI for Bermuda people check for rocks and construction debris that was not removed prior to laying down the lawn. If that happens especially in clay soil there is a chance your lawn will not recover unless you dig up the rocks and debris, dig up and remove as much clay as you can and fill with a ton of topsoil.

I have several places in my yard that seem to stay bare, except for weeds. The crazy weeds grow there, but the grass struggles. My yard has a slope and when the builder did the original landscape, they brought in a lot of red clay and buried leftover bricks as well. One lower area has a lot of drainage and you can see the pattern of where the water flows down to the street. It's a pattern of weeds that I have fought for 8 years. The other area is higher and not really in a 'flow' spot, but I am suspecting a lot of brick was buried there. These weeds grow over all of it fairly well, and they are green and native plants to the area, but when the grass is cut, the yard looks very bare in those spots since these 'weeds' are the kind that have low growing 'tentacles' above ground and when they are cut most of the bare ground is exposed. I have not tried to re sod those areas, but that is going to be my next attempt. I know some would say why not in 8 years, but I have recently retired and never really noticed it before!! I was working most of the time so it didn't bother me. I live in Florida and have centipede grass.

Thanks for another great video, It seems like most videos on youtube regarding lawn care are all from Yankees in the north mowing their blue grass and rye with their "real mowers". Would love to see more videos on centipede and getting rid of hateful Bahia grass. I know some people like Bahia but down here where I live zone 8b by the coast / sandy soil it grows too fast and is impossible to get rid of. I've been trying to keep it mowed low but it just wont die and I'm worried about using MSM turf because I have oaks, fruit trees, and I don't want to kill the centipede i do have by overlapping or over spray. Thanks again and keep up the great work!

First make sure the bare spots are not from Grubs. Cut a small spot and pull back the dirt. If you see the white critters, you'll need to kill them, or they will eat all your grass by the roots. Vinegar is a natural way to kill them. Water a lot before re-planting.

not an expert but I had the same type of issue but I finally listened and got a couple soil tests, which come back fairly quickly. Found out PH was too high and barely any NPK. Why does grass never grow where you want it to but it grows beautifully into all of my flower beds? I've got one large spot right in the front of my lawn close to the curb where the Bermuda grass will not grow. Weeds don't grow into the area either. Do you think a previous homeowner put some chemical(s) in this spot in a high concentration? I've got some work to do in the fall I guess. I tried Bermuda grass seed and some fine mulch covering the area in late spring but nothing grew. I watered the area well each day but no grass sprouted. Frustrating.
@Nick23at633 жыл бұрын
Your soil is probably nutrient deficient in those areas. Your flower beds probably have better soil. Do a test in a small spot. Break up the soil with a tool, add some epsom salt, sugar, and a little fertilizer, then plant a bermuda stolen in it. Keep it watered daily. It should spread.

Make a flower bed where the grass won't grow
@cynthiarafferty76623 жыл бұрын
Good idea but I cannot make a flower bed in the area because it would look odd and out of place. I put BioChar from Anderson's ( ordered online) and Evergreen (an AL company purchased @ Lowe's) finely shredded mulch down in the area. Rain, rain, and more rain plus Tropical Storm Claudette dumping 8" of rain in my area in June caused the Bermuda grass to finally send shoots(?)/roots into the "dead zone". It is filling in nicely. I still have Bermuda grass growing into my flower beds but I'll pull that out when the temperatures cool down. 90° with a heat index making the temperature 100° to 107° is too hot to be in the full sun pulling grass. The grass will be there. It can wait. Call me lazy! 😂 LoL!
