I’m frying some right now. The best way I think is you make a marinara sauce and slide the fillets in. Cook a few minutes and put it over linguine.

Hello. You seem to know these fish well. Today I speared one, but the eggs had long, dark-red parasites. Is it common? Does it mean the fish is also infected or is it okay to consume it?
@SaltySamFishing
@SaltySamFishing Ай бұрын
@@sduka1909 I can't really advise whether it's ok to eat it or not especially without seeing it but, if you're questioning comfortability with eating it, always play on the safe side. Lots of fish have worms and it sounds like this could be Philometra saltatrix which is fairly common in Bluefish after doing some research. Typically cooking the fish will get rid of the worms, but again, I would always advise to play it on the safe side if you are unsure.

Used to eat them when I was a kid. So much fun catching little snappers from the pier and going on night blue charters with my dad. My dad used to say “if blues were the size of sharks the ocean would be empty”

I just subbed, I like your style and format. You being a fellow Jersey angler helps too! I was just on a charter this weekend out of Belmar. It was a bluefish slaughter for me. I must've caught 30 blues, the most on the boat! My tranx broke, so I ended up using my "backup" reel, which was a bass reel on a light setup. I ended up giving away fish, and towards the end started catch and releasing. I kept 2 blues and 2 bonitas. I was definitely sore the next day!
@SaltySamFishing
@SaltySamFishing 2 ай бұрын
Appreciate the kind words, that sounds like an insane day! Bluefish will definitely tire you out after catching that many since they fight so hard-especially on light tackle. Sorry to hear about your Tranx but I guess it was for a good reason!

When I was in my late teens to early 20’s in the mid to late 80’s my buds and I occasionally would hit the Jersey shore party boats for blues. Used to eat them but went mostly for the fight those fish would give. Slammer trips with so many fish 10+ lbs and you couldn’t list your arms after. Good times

Dogfish do make great British style fish and chips. I'm from Wildwood but lived in London and my wife was born and raised in the middle of England and her parents owned a takeaway. She confirmed it. The way we do it is to cut them into steaks (basically 2" cross sections), batter and fry. I eat 'em but don't cook them. The "bones" are cartilage and melt away so don't bother deboning. Try 'em. I can't tell them from Cod or Pollock. b PS: I hear they call them "Rock Salmon" instead of dogfish

Bluefish is a fish you'll have to bleed them well. Otherwise they'll taste very iron like and a much stronger scent as well.. Even then, I tried a piece raw and was pretty horrified how it tasted. I was really nervous how it'll taste fried at the dinner table, but found it tasted just fine.

If you don't like BLUEFISH, that means you don't know how to cook it. Overcooked it is like tuna fish, cooked to a turn it is soft and delicious. I just salt and eat. Wrap in foil, medium heat on flat surface, turn a lot to a little underdone, let sit and cook some more off the heat, check next to spine bone, should just barely come off with fork. A little salt and eat.

Actually another strike to most people is the texture of the meat. Yes, you can reduce the fishy taste with things like milk soaks. But the meat is not firm enough. Even with a hard fry, you are only making the coating crispy, not the meat. And forget about baking. Reason why a lot of people make a dip out of it instead.
