Of course I encourage *everyone* to watch the *whole thing!* But to facilitate your life: 3:12 -- Fishing 8:20 -- Prepping 13:15 -- Cooking 15:53 -- Tasting 22:12 -- Afterword (highly recommended) P.s. recipe is in the description of the video. I hope you all understand that this catch-and-cook ain't your "entertainment" style catch-and-cook! By watching this video, not only you should be able to fully reproduce the dish that I have shared with you folks, but you should also be able to _responsibly_ harvest fish from your local waterways *and* care for your health and the health of your loved ones!!! If you are going to consume fish or give fish to others to be consumed, at least make sure that it is not poison, right? Heh. Alright, folks...hope you enjoyed this video! Tight lines and FISH ON!

but surely by not taking the hybrids, blue gill recruitment would be slightly harmed but the hybrid recruitment would be up, but by taking both still the hybrid recruitment would be up, because it is a hybrid haha

I remember my mom taking us fishing for bluegills when i was a kid while my dad was at work. Then she would clean them fillet them and cook them for dinner. A few years ago my friends and i were camping and we decided to catch some bluegills and cook them like my mom used to. Man , it took forever to clean enough bluegill to feed 6 people then cook them. My mom used to do it twice a week. When i got home i gave my mom a big hug and told her i appreciated everything she went through to keep us fed when we were growing up. This was a good homage video to your mom. People dont realize what parents actually DO for their kids. 👍

Same here, brother. My Dad and my Mom would clean the fish all the time. Crazy how long it actually takes to clean them that way, unless you are doing fillet! It tastes best when eating with others, though. Heh.

I grew up in Western Colorado. This reminds me of how we used to cook fish on camping trips in the mountains. We did the flying in butter (sometimes lard) and different herbs mix, but otherwise very much the same. It's a fantastic way to enjoy freshly caught fish. Lard was used in longer pack trips in the Summer where we could not depend upon colder temperatures to preserve the butter. It wasn't until much latter in life that I discovered that butter, like lard, does not really spoil under short-term heat. Even so, lard imparts a very desirable flavor to fish. THANKS FOR THE VIDEO! VERY ENJOYABLE.

As a kid growing up in Indiana I would ride my bike to a couple ponds in the woods, and bring home bass, catfish, crappie, and bluegill to cook all through the summer. Starting around 9 or 10 years old I didn't mind cleaning and filleting crappie and bluegill, but after a while I stopped because I was tired of harvesting so little meat from them vs. the bass and catfish. I never considered the whole fish method for these panfish, and now I'm getting a hankering to give this method a try. Looks delicious, and that seasoned fried crunch is making me salivate! Great video Leo.

When smoking fish, you can go two ways... virtually no seasoning other than salt and then dress it up after. OR, go with a heavily spiced blackened type of seasoning. If it was salmon, I would go with an Asian marinade.

I’ve caught many hybrids out of a pond that look just like the second fish you caught. I believe that those are bluegill-green sunfish hybrids, because the only other species I’ve caught in that pond I are bluegill and green sunfish. There could be pumpkinseeds I guess, but I’ve never caught any. Thought it was cool that I’ve caught that same hybrid fish.

With bluegill, or any kind of fish, my dad would just scale it, take intestines out, score each side, then fry it. That allows the bones throughout the body to become real easy to crumble, like chips.

Leo If you do catch and cook walleye or crappie you should clean the inside and scale it keep the head on then put it on aluminum foil fill, stuff the inside with lemongrass, whole chili(opinional),green onion, ginger and garlic and sprinkle some salt inside and cover the whole fish with aluminum foil and bake it in a oven till its ready. P.s would work with other fish but best with either whole walleye, whole crappie and whole tilapia

My pops always ate the heads an his favorite part was the eyes😨. We're not Asian/Brazilian but we eat our fish around here! Growing up I ate a bit of bluegill, highly underrated! We went out to the wilderness and caught them in the cleanest of waters, in arizona the heat makes some lakes gross to eat out of gotta be selective. Great video Leo!
