Are swords used in martial arts like this sharp enough to cause serious injury? Because this looks dangerous as hell and with that speed there must surely be miscalculations every now and then?
@bluehippofilms3 жыл бұрын
The swords in modern wushu aren't sharpened and the metal's thin so it's actually much safer. It can still cut/scar you because the blade's moving so fast and with so much power, but you're not going to be losing a limb. I actually have a few deep cuts/scars on my left arm from when I was first learning. BTW, f you're curious why the swords are so thin. Since this is for forms demonstration as a sport, the swords are flexible for safety and practicality reason. Kind of similar to how fencing swords are so different from real swords, because they've adapted for the safest/most practical use for the sport. This way nobody gets seriously hurt (or arrested for running around with real swords). Swords can now become lighter ~ 1.3 lbs, allowing you do more complex and impressive movements without much danger. They also make very satisfactory snapping sounds when proper power/technique is applied (which you wouldn’t get with more rigid swords).
