Hi Dave. a real beautiful eye appealing card of Ruth, I love this image of him. A great story about the two auction houses. REA certainly demonstrated what customer service stands for, even though you were not purchasing this card from them. Well done, thanks Stephen

Asking Goldin Auctions sounds like asking a question to a politician. Unbelievable n vague to say the least. That card of The Babe is a beauty. As for the Mantle, looks like 2 different cards with coloring n the creases.

Awesome purchase Dave! I really like the real-photo aspect of the cards. The response from Goldin was a pure and adulterated Cop out. Glad you were able to research and find the best description of the card. I had about 30 of the mailing envelopes for the Worch cards, about 15-20 years ago. Sold them all on Ebay, as I didn't collect them. I did a KZbin video about month ago from my local card shop, Ultimate Collectibles. At the 7:49 mark of the video, I show 12 of a group of 20+ Worch Tobacco cards, including Lou Gehrig, Grove, Gehringer, Traynor and Gomez.

Cool bit of history here. I am going to have to keep an eye out for these cards. The Millers were pretty much a Triple A club that had a ton of future superstars pass through (Mays, Williams, Yaz among many others). Met Stadium, the first home of the Twins was actually built for the Millers in 1956 and it was hoped that it would draw the New York Giants here. I would love to find some of the Millers cards!

It looks like Auction houses are like dating sites. Their aim is to show the cards in the best way to make the sale and not to reflect any and all imperfections. What is odd is that after decades of business there is no industry standard for lighting/resolution of items advertised. Its still a wild west anything goes. Goldins response was passable. A PSA 3 is whatever PSA deems a 3. When I sell cards people that ask too many questions scare me. I feel they will be quick find a reason to return something. On another note what do you think of Veriswap? You can post your collection and trade with others. Its mostly modern cards because they need more mature users to post vintage. But it would be a game changer if they did.
@Bluejacket66 Жыл бұрын
I’ve never heard of veriswap? All auction houses have had their issues I guess

Dave, many years ago, before grading companies began their worthwhile service and business, I annoyed many a dealer over the phone with my "20 questions" about a card I was interested in. I always remembered the dealers who were honest and accurate in their grading. I say this in tandem with your comments about the 2 different auction houses. With the one, you got nowhere, with a runaround and avoidance of trying to help you. I imagine you will NEVER do business with them again. This kind of aggravation and frustration attaches itself to the item and can create a negative connotation between you and the card; however, since Robert Edward Auctions came to your rescue, and because they had handled the exact same card, and really tried to help you, now any time you admire the Worch Cigar Babe Ruth, you'll think of REA all the way! The other auction house is a "BEAT IT, BOY; YA BOTHER ME!" whereas Robert Edward Auctions is a "SURE, BUDDY; LET'S SEE WHAT WE GOT HERE." Your pre-war regional Babe Ruth is a honey, and I love it. The full-length pose is outstanding. Congratulations, my friend. Outstanding video, and very important for your fellow hobbyists to listen to closely.
@brianpowell7416 Жыл бұрын
Furthermore, since this IS a $10,000 plus card, you most assuredly are entitled to ask your 20 questions, and get good answers to all 20! Dave, no need to apologize for feeling the way you do about ascertaining why a card is only a "3" when it looks like a 6.
@Bluejacket66 Жыл бұрын

@@Bluejacket66 Well, I'm just thrilled for you that you got a Babe with fabulous eye appeal and a happy ending. Since so many of Babe's cards are beautiful but itzie-bitzy, a regal over-sized Bambino will have a not so subtle way of standing out among all your others. For what it's worth, another regional Ruth, that German 1932 Sanella Margarine has a mesmerizing pose of 1921 or so. I researched what years the Yanks wore white hats, and it was during the very early years when the Mighty Babe joined the Yankees and rewrote the record books. It may be common, but it's uncommonly beautiful and also oversized. Sorry Dave, I'm off the track. Take care, my friend. -- Brian

I've had similar issues with Goldin as you had with your Mantle. Its not cool! Congrats on picking up that Babe Ruth Dave! The Mantle Stahl Meyer I would almost say is a different card you received from that of the scans. Although the border edges look the same. Very deceptive.

Great points on Goldin Dave! I've had issues with Goldin in the past as well. Now that they're part of Collectors, they seem even worse. Not to mention the conflict of interest of the grading company being owned by the same parent as the auction house. I'm sure there isn't any silliness going on there. I never again buy from a seller who burns me on a doctored pic. Its tough because some of the rare stuff only comes up at auction. And your patting yourself on the back for using other resources to ensure that the drug dealer didn't rip you off this time! YOU ARE THE PROBLEM! Don't do business with scumbags. Its not tough.
