The machinery is great, and the Cat's computer records volume per log length as it processes each piece, and 'radios' it to the mill inventory. And men are out of work, often for good. I watched a simmilar feller/processor show on Vancouver Island and the guy who showed me around said "There are eight men in town with no jobs now. True, the company makes more profit, but SOMEONE will be paying for those unemployed men who were making good coin, and for their families; and in the end, the company will be paying some of that cost, indirectly." Worth thinking about.

Beautiful footage. You guys generally try and avoid hiring fallers to cut any of the oversize?

I believe Chilton uses several fallers but usually on steep ground. The safety risks and Labor and Industries rates make it very difficult to use hand fallers.
@joepesci89306 жыл бұрын
Blue Line Land Works thanks for the response. I run a side on eastern side of the state. For whatever reasons in my area the forestry dept has us bring in handfallers for oversize and we are banned from double cutting oversized with feller bunchers. The bottom of the saw has ski’s on it, no problem using bottom of head to turn. The head manufacturers do not recommend using the horns to lift machine to assist turning, good way to bend the horns and its highly inefficient, wasting fuel doing motions for nothing.

Why not bring a cut to length harvester and a Forwarder in there. Can´t understand americans and their bunchers/skidders/processers. Seems stupid to skid all the limbs and tops to the deck and accumulate the organic matter there or have to transport it back out with the skidder.
@BlueLineLandWorks6 жыл бұрын
Wayne Doe we burn the organic matter and most forwarders i have seen are not designed for 40 foot logs. Also most of the timber we have seems to be much larger than what the cut to length machines are handling.
@BlueLineLandWorks6 жыл бұрын
Thats my best guess anyways.
@TheFus26 жыл бұрын
Ok thank you for your answer. I didn`t realize you are cutting 40 foot logs and such big timber. But I saw it in your video after I commented. There are cut to length machines out there that can cut timber like that and suitable forwarders for this application, but in this case buncher + skidder + processor seem like the most suitable machines.
@TomokosEnterprize9 ай бұрын
The waste is easiest to deal with piling and burn it. Nowdays it is concentrated along side the road a log length from the processor working. I piled the slash in pyramids or really high lines. As soon as they left the block I would light the piles in mid to late winter.
