Brilliant coverage by the BBC, so much better than what we get today. Also what a great field and Lester at his majestic best.

Much appreciated: a great extended video. How racing at the top level has changed; for example, nowadays you’d be lucky to see half the number of runners. Looking again, in that ‘scorching heat’, how wise of Lester getting off the horse’s back for something like five minutes to stand quietly in the trees shade. In the straight the horse never changed feet.

I agree with you totally amazing how everything now resolves around avoiding this race, Also very much appreciated the thanks but I post these vids simply for others to enjoy remember and debate

@@EddieCr I grew up.loving this fabulous race. It was always well attended by the cream of Europe: Derby and Oaks winners as well as the best from France, now it is a shadow of those days, Great to see the three year-olds and four year old competing against one another, I dislike current racing as I feel it has been hi-jacked by a minority of owners and trainers.

I used to love this racing as a young boy growing up in Ireland in the 1970’s.

Thank you, I really appreciate your posting these great races. What a field! I'm in Canada and at the time was only reading about these horses and races. What a treat to actually watch them.

What a top class field in the days when the King George was the headline race of the summer. Very sad to see the it has lost that prestige today and it is now all about the Arc.

Totally forgot what a stacked renewal this race was, they all used to show up for this race (1987 being another case in point) - Lester masterclass on a horse that it was believed needed it soft, especially when you consider how badly he hung when beaten in the previous year's Irish Derby on the same ground.

To: @JSB-IZ-ME - Ha, ha! I distinctly recall my father's interest in Teenoso. Every year the Timeform annual 'bible' was published and they would give a small list of, and I believe it was eight, horses to follow the coming year which were likely to make very significant improvements. Quite an achievement considering how many horses are in training. The 'men with binoculars' certainly had Teenoso 'pegged' as they also stressed his favour for soft going.

@@petermoody6147my old man the same, I remember him remarking about this horse and Lester later in his life. Was some race though, like a who’s who of breeding. Hot summers like this remind you of those legendary races bathed in the same sunshine and of course the silky tones of Sir Peter O’Sullivan and Julian Wilson. Wonderful stuff.
@petermoody61472 ай бұрын
To: @JSB-IZ-ME - Indeed! My parents owned a caravan in the Lake District so we spent our summers there. I can vivdly picture my fathe and myself sitting on the sofa as he first mentioned Teenoso whilst reading through the tome and assessing his options for the coming season. Certainly were a collection of breeding horses and an exemplary field of runners. Perhaps on their day it would be churlish to begrudge any of a handful, a deserved victory.
