I got a Swytch kit with the air battery. I have had other e-bikes too. I do like that the air version is really light, and the small battery has enough range to get over 14-15 miles even with 600-700' of elevation on my commute. It charges fast enough that I can commute into the downtown area of my city, recharge while doing some work, and come home within a few hours. One unforeseen advantage is that I can climb a 15% grade that broke my other bikes' drive side spokes. I think that this is due to the front hub motor doing maybe half of the work as the rear wheel takes the rest of the load. So two wheels taking the load instead of one means less strain on the rear spokes. I live close to some very steep climbs, which is why I got an e-bike kit in the first place about 9 years ago.

Excellent point re front wheel drive taking the strain off the rear wheel. Front wheel drive leaves your rear wheel intact; in my case a belt driven 8 speed hub. And with the strain off the rear wheel, your chain or belt and sprockets will last much longer. My bike also has regen braking using the front wheel - this recharges the battery to some extent when going down hills, BUT it also saves my discs and disc pads. These are expensive so making them last is a helpful bonus; in my case I hardly need to use the brakes. If a regen front motor was fitted to a heavy cargo bike, the savings on discs and pads could be 100's or more per year. You do need a Direct Drive motor though.

i like little front hub motors for trikes for older folks , and newb bike riders . thy are great for rehabbing knees or cardio . Just enough power to enjoy and lower speeds for safety . Plus its All wheel drive ⚡

I went to order my Swytch kit And the add-ons were a little overwhelming. Can you talk about what kind of brake sensors a person might want if they have disc brakes and what is the difference between an in-line break and a hydraulic break? Do I really need to buy extension cables for the motor or other parts, especially if I’m having the kit delivered to the USA and don’t want to wait for future add-ons that I unexpectedly need?

My biggest concern over electric bicycles is the fire safety if you charge the batteries at home - in your house or garage. Are these Swytch batteries LFP or a chemistry which won't burn your house down if it's faulty?

I don't know specifically what the batteries are made of but I contacted Swytch and the batteries for the GO, GO+, GO++, MAX+, MAX++ are UL-2271 certified

Great video Matt, thank you very much. I wonder if you could tell me how you mounted the Max mount over the front mudguard. I have a Dahon D7 boardwalk and would like to do the same thing, as using the handlebar position prevents complete folding of the bike, even with the Max battery removed. Thanking you in advance. How much for biggest battery to carry a spare? And How would it work on a mountain bike that mostly gets main traction in rear wheel?

It's a little expensive considering you can get a faster and longer range ebike for not a lot more. Maybe if the price was closer to 300. But 500 for the middle range kit is too much.

It is around 300 if you are signed up and pre order, this means waiting a few months for your bike to be made by batch order. I paid in total 320 which included a couple of add ons. I'm very happy with my kit and wasn't bothered about waiting 4 months for the discount.

@@Oliver-yd3fc have you received your order ? I haven't and it's been 8 months next week, asked for a refund and they won't give the full amount even though the order hasn't even shipped so there should be no shipping fee or in turn a full refund including shipping fee !

@@SimonBrowneNZ no it didn't we gave them another 3 weeks still nothing so they sent us a full refund. They are definitely a scam and I would never try to buy from them again (they should be shut down) they're just keeping your money to make money off the interest or putting the money into stocks and shares and other side hustles. As a regular business they wouldn't stay afloat but they must make so much money with other people's money that they don't actually need to make a viable business. I bought an illegal 30mph 50kph kit off eBay and it works fine it also has better range (60 miles or 100 kilometres) and costs less but it was a little more fiddly to assemble and obviously not technically street legal in any way shape or form but as long as you ride safely nobody batts an eyelid ! Hope this helps 👍

Swytch bike have not respected their commitment to increase the speed of their Kit for Canada as they say on their site and as they told me. Very disappointing, I hope they will correct the speed limit.

SWYTCH SCAM ALERT. I ordered the Swytch kit. It came in months later but at the estimated time. It DID NOT fit my bike. The tire fit but the axel did not fit my fork. Customer service barely replies. I asked multiple times if I could buy a wheel motor with a wider axel. No response. I was allowed to send it back for a refund. I sent it back. A week later they tell me they are only giving a partial refund. No refund for $50 shipping and no refund for the $78 tax. That's $128 out of my pocket. No response from Swytch. I am now trying to make a dispute with my bank. AVOID THIS PRODUCT. This seller does not try to help you with fitting the product. They do not reply. If it does not fit your bike you are out $128.

I agree but they do let you select 9mm axel in the options if you rush over that bit they'll send out a 10mm, that said it's been 8 months still no swytch go+ and on asking for a refund they won't refund the full amount ! ITS A SCAM and I'm in the UK !
