This is probably the most valuable lesson I have seen from you. My excitement of getting this piano and imagining that I can do all the hard hikes before I can walk has been getting in the way of my actual learning. I face this realization now especially after crashing and burning on the more advanced tutorials. Sure, I can pick out and follow the notes, but I don't got rhythm and a solid base of necessary skills. I keep coming back to the easier lessons, and I really appreciate you posting those links below. Now I like to imagine that you ARE standing behind me with a whip and a wooden spoon. I will learn and find joy at my practice sessions. I promise.

Christian you are telling it like it is !! I've been learning with your channel a while and just found this and it is gold. Your advice is truth, ...it's not always easy learning blues, but it is worthwhile. Sometimes I ask myself the question "How bad do I want this" when learning new pieces. It takes a lot of effort sometimes to push myself past my comfort zone in order to progress. I have to go slow, repeat, go slow repeat etc. etc. Then comes the joy in playing something I couldn't play last week Thank you

The best strategy is to find a good blues piano teacher. He or she will make a PLAN for you what and how to practice. Unfortunately, there are no such teachers in my town (in Russia) , most of them are piano teachers of classical music (I don't mean to say that they are bad, but ... that's not what I wanted :). My first book was " Improvising Blues Piano" by Tim Richards( you can find it in the Internet) , which was a bit complicated for me as a beginner, anyways -it was a good start to learn the basics, scales , fingerings and it has nice audio samples.

I once read somewhere... "If you didn't gain good hand independence before the age of 12, you will never be an outstanding piano player." I DO NOT accept that! I have played piano "by ear" for many years on an "ok" level; but now at last I will forge those neural pathways in my brain and gain independence - with your cruel (and fun) instruction, Christian

The big frustration for me is getting my keyboard piano sound to sound good to my ear. I have Casio CTX700 & WK7600 and I bought Addictive Keys 'Upright Piano' & 'Rhodes Mark One' apps. Not sounding good hinders enthusiasm, but I'm still trying after 1 year :)

Maybe a strange question....do you use your sustain pedal (a lot) when you play blues piano? When I try things (I am a beginner) it doesn’t sound so good with pedal. I am curious what you use. Thanks in advance.
@ChristianFuchsBlues4 жыл бұрын
Almost only in slow pieces. You must also learn how to use it. Its not like : Down and great it sounds.
@SjaakShirly65594 жыл бұрын
Christian Fuchs thanks! No, I am aware of it. For slow blues it is a good advice. Have a nice Sunday.

The 'singer' joke is sexist! Very unfashionable these days. However I am grateful for your content, thank you.
@ChristianFuchsBlues4 жыл бұрын
Musicians jokes target by definition idiosyncrasies of the profession, not of the female sex. Example: psychologist joke, there are plenty often has a female part who says something funny stereotypic of the common clichees. No one would ever categorise such a joke as sexist. Apart from that 99 % of my jokes are at the cost of men, including myself. I would say I spend a lot of time discrediting men. Which is quite in favor of the womens cause. Which I of course support. Cause I can think and therefore dont care for fashion. ;-)
