I have listened to many drum solos in my time. Ginger with out question is one of THE best drummers I have ever heard. He Kills the drums here and he didn't miss a beat. I thought Bonham could do a great solo. But this one is one that will stand out in time as one of the best.

Thanks for posting this. I saw this band one week before, Feb 4 1990 at the Bayou in Wash DC. I saw Ginger do Toad with Cream Nov 3 1968 at the Baltimore Civic Center and his Do What You Like solo with Blind Faith July 20 1969. At all three concerts his solo got the biggest ovation of the night (standing). At the Bayou we were all standing on the chairs and the couple at my table said he sounds like a train. This Toad you have posted is as fine as I have ever heard. Thanks for sharing this piece of history.

@guitar1067 I wish I could have been to the shows you have seen but I was a newborn in '68.I could have seen this 1 but I was unfortunately beginning a career as a heroin addict and not going to shows like I was in the mid to late 80's.I saw some of the all time greats but I missed seeing the best(in my opinion)😢.I survived the heroin just like Ginger himself did.His drumming was absolutely spectacular in this footage and time period.Now(also in my opinion only),this kid can play guitar,no doubt about it, but his heavy metal glam twists with the tremolo do not fit the situation.Same when Ozzy had Brad Gillis from Night Ranger doing Sabbath tunes on Speak of the Devil live album and tour.I'm absolutely certain that Ginger was thinking the same thing cause he is famous for his 1 beat in the right place says more than many in the same place.I think that Jack was thinking that recruiting fresh talent would help put new life to older material.Not here baby,dude just don't fit.I still would've gone just to hear Gingers drumming if nothing else.Jack was having issues with heroin also whilst Ginger was finally clean and still a beast on the kit.He was good till his last show doing the fusion thing with Abass.Rest in peace Ginger knowing that you are remembered just as you wished when once asked how you wanted to be in an interview,a drummer.Google up Ginger Baker,the answer is as follows:Ginger Baker-English Drummer.I personally would add The Greatest English Drummer!Take care all and thanks for posting this footage.

I was at this show. Ginger came in the door , a hospital bracelet on his wrist and bandages on both arms. Shook my hand and said hello as he walked by me. True Story.

COOL! I WAS THERE TOO! Were you staff? How did you get to shake his hand? I remember Jack saying that Ginger was back stage having a tea, and "we're going to bring Ginger out soon" As crabby as he was, I think he had some decency underneath the ruff exterior. Thanks for you response.

I am stunned!!!!!!!!! I have been a complete and total Cream fanatic since 1967 - and this is the first time I have run across this particular version of Toad. Ginger literally kills with this performance! This goes right to the top of my list of top Toad performances!! I still get flabbergasted when Ginger gets all four limbs going independently at breakneck speeds!

I was at this show in New Haven CT. I saw Ginger walk onto the stage about 20 feet away from me, his hair was still somewhat orange.

Totally agree . I think this is my favourite and best Toad drum solo . I thought the guitar player was Gary Moore initially but now realise it's not . Didn't enjoy his contribution to the performance but doesn't really matter ....Ginger shines so brightly anything else is almost irrelevant .

@@Roy-or6ev Roy, I was at this show, and i was about 20 away from Ginger when he was escorted on to the stage by a stage crew member, he had pink hospital bands on his wrist, from Yale New Haven hospital, because he hurt his wrist a few days before the show, and went to the hospital to make sure everything was right.

@@josephesposito3499 Yes, he came in through the back door halfway through the show and strode through the audience to the stage. I seem to recall he was wearing the trench coat he had on for the BBM album cover.

@@josephesposito3499 Girl band? I was one of the first people in line at the door and grabbed a stool at the bar long before the show. It was strictly a Jack and Ginger show as I recall (could be a little fuzzy on that). On one trip back from doing one-hitters in the men's room I walked past the green room and Jack was in the doorway warming up on bass. I exchanged a few words and went back to my seat which was being held for me by the girl I was with. It was a very cold February night and I remember a shoe-less beggar on the street when we left Toad's. Are you sure you were at that show? Jack and Ginger played there once before that show.

I was told the show I SAW was the 4th date at the beginning of the tour. I then saw them AGAIN at Toads at the END of the tour. I also remember Jack saying: "boy it's cold MAN" so I was at both shows and there was a girl band that warmed up at one of them. btw they SUCKED LOL

Too bad about the guitar player but what a great solo! Saw Ginger in 2010 in Minneapolis at a jazz club outta sight he was sick as a dog had to take more than one break for " the technicolor yawn " as he phrased it and he still played fantastic all jazz no cream ( from what I remember ) at one point he gave a shout-out to Cyril Davies of all people who I think may have been in Graham Bond Organization w Baker
