Lewis thinks Chelsea should have finished top 4. The top three spots were taken by teams a lot better than Chelsea and they had managers that were experienced managers who have been with their squads several seasons. So the top three spots were taken and one spot would have been left to make top 4. That leaves Chelsea fighting for that one spot against Manchester United (finished 3rd last season), New Castle (finished 4th last season, and Tottenham, and Aston Villa (who finished above Chelsea last season). You add that Chelsea signed youth over experience than top 5 or 6 is a good showing. Regardless, next season Chelsea will be fighting for two open spots. Since I believe Arsenal and Manchester City will finish top two.

@@yacinedo Unai Emery started with Villa in October of 2022. Some of the players he has brought in are Youri Tielemans, Pau Torres, Moussa Diaby, Alex Moreno, and Diego Carlos. The last great Chelsea squad, although aging, was the one that won the champions league with Touchel in 2021 and finished 4th in the league. But since then the landscape of the premier league has changed. Man City has consolidated its hold on the top spot and Arsenal, Aston Villa, New Castle, as well as Tottenham to some extent investing in their squads. You add Liverpool and Manchester United and it makes it much more competitive to finish in the top 4 nowadays. You only have to look at Liverpool and see how they slipped out of the top Four spots last year after finishing in the top four for several years in a row.

Everyone was calling for Poch to be sacked during December, ownership at that point was “trust the process”. Post December Chelsea gathered the most points after Arsenal, City and Liverpool, won last 5 matches in a row, found a working chemistry in his team, secured European football and the ownership is like ‘lets just sack him”. Why ??? Cause Poch wanted a say in the transfers. Great format for this. Agree mostly witb Lewis. I do think that Poch was slowly changing the mentality of the players. We were seeing less copitulations more late goals. Poch deserves some credit. Ultimately he was not and was never from the beging our man. A good end to the season was papering over a lot of cracks

The fact remains that Pochettino and his assistants, struggled with the Chelsea team in the early part of the season . Players were struggling with a system and lacking in confidence . However as the season progressed so did this Chelsea team. Palmer very definitely was a major catalyst in Chelsea’s surge in the 2nd half of the season . You could see the impact on the players performance all around. Let’s hope the next appointed coach has a positive impact on the team. We need a sense of calm .
