I find it really funny that if you get chased by a blue shell, when it catches up to you it will lift any nearby stage hazards (cars, trains, goombas etc.) up into the air to prevent you from using them to damage boost through the blue shell.

However I've had several cases recently where I've been hit by ANOTHER power up (usually lightning) just seconds before being hit by a Blue Shell, and so the blue shell didn't hurt me at all

Pretty sure the actual reason is that the devs just found it too complicated to make the blueshells route react to any movable track obstacle and decided to just make the obstacles react instead. In german we have a saying "if the mountain does not walk the prophet, then the prophet will have to walk to the mountain", I think that applies here perfectly. :P

Seems like they never changed since Mario Kart 7😅 I swear, and I’m not even kidding, for all the times I encountered blue shells in MK7, they LITERALLY take shortcuts over OOB areas, and goes straight for my soul in the process

Yep, that actually happened to me several times. However, in MK7, if you fall off a cliff at just the right time, you can make the Blue Shell pass you and glitch out the siren

The weirdest encounter yet with the blue shell was when me and my friends where racing and the blue shell didn't hit the one who was in first, literally the blue shell did an entire lap and when I saw the mini map, the blue shell disappeared before hitting the person in first place and this happened three times on different tracks like 😭😂

Apparently if a blue shell chases a player for a certain amount of time without catching them it just disappears. Probably a fail-safe mechanic. U can search up a vid of it

That’s actually a strategy that is sometimes used in competitive play on Yoshi Valley. If you have a blue shell but don’t want to hit a teammate who’s in first, you can time it so it goes by them while they’re on the bridge and it’ll just go around them and despawn. I’ve used it a couple times but it’s very situational and not easy to time

thats because it was inspired by the spiny shell from mainline mario games. they along with buzzy beetles, if hanging from the ceiling, will fall and home in on mario even if slightly off screen. the shell items are moreso based on the koopas you get them from. green will fall off edges, and red will stay on the platform, which translates to straight and bouncy, and homing but breaks if it hits a wall.

@@ShadowdaHedgie11 it's just a way to differentiate colorwise, since color is the fastest way to tell if somethings the same or not before sound, but what if a deaf person were playing. they had to make an easy way to differentiate them, and thus, that's why the spiny shell is blue. though they really shoudl call it the blue shell, since sometimes it has wings, other times it doesn't, and now it explodes so you know.

That's just how it works. The blue shell got close enough to them, so it disregards all boundaries and walls and goes for them. Ever seen someone outrun a blue shell on 200cc? Happens all the time there.

Once it gets within lock-on range, it will always do that. One good way to see it happen yourself is at the beginning of Sherbet Land where the track splits.

This reminds me of this one time in mario kart where I was in whatever that subway track is called and the blue shell raised the subway higher. Unfortunately I forgot to record it but i’ll give you a quick rundown of what happened. I was in first place and near the subway when I got hit by the lightning bolt power up. Shortly after a blue shell came and started circling around me and for some reason the subway just got pushed up from the blue shell. Im not 100% sure it happened but I swear that it did that. I think it occurred because since I was smaller than usual the blue shell went closer to me when circling above me which made the subway have to move up instead of the blue shell clipping through it. Can someone please try to test this out to see if I’m right? I really want to see if I stumbled upon a glitch.

a lot of people dont *seem* to get it (maybe you do, but just never explain it) but the reason blue shells wallhack is when they get close enough to the player/cpu, it lifts off the track and starts going directly towards the player/cpu it’s targeting. and in 200cc, you can outrun it for a bit after it targets you, or maybe even make it disappear for existing too long.

I think that's normal. When It gets close to its target it goes above them to circle for a moment before blowing them up. I don't think it cares about anything once it's gotten close enough to do this.
