This video is over 20 years old and is The best hitting video I have ever seen. I hit balls further than I have in my entire life after seeing this video about a month ago. I'm 47.

I agree with you brother. I got this video on VHS when it was new. I was new to slow pitch at that time. I was a good athlete but not a good "softball" hitter. I altered my grip at that time and even with all videos I have seen over the years, this would be my suggestion for anyone who is struggling. I do not mean to imply it is a "beginner" type thing. This video can also make a good hitter...... great. If you have an iPad, download the "Coaches Eye" app. and use it to record and evaluate your BP sessions. I am fairly certain you can import videos you have already taken as well so that you can better analyze them.

@ 18:45, when Ray talks about an injury in his back has caused him to swing with one arm, and mess up his swing, I'm wondering if that was a sign of the lung cancer? Now days, if a Dr. suspects lung cancer, they ask you about, and check you, for back pain behind the ribs and lung. That is where Ray was indicating. Not long after this video, Ray battles lung and brain cancer. You just know that he gave it a heck of a fight. Rest in peace Ray, 22.5 years later, and want you to know your training tips are helping me right now, this very week. Thank you.

Had my old baseball coach and manager of a slowpitch league that I played in for over 10 years tell me I had the best softball swing he's ever seen after I applied these lessons. He was wrong of course. THE LEGEND in the video is the owner of that title, always, imo. Thank you for the video!!!

Excellent tips here. Unfortunately, Long ago I learned these tips and by twisting my Hips through the entire swing, I developed low back issues associated with Spinal Stenosis. I decided it was better to keep hitting with a high average and play longer into life, so I stayed as more of an upper body hitter. I just wish that these videos were available to me as a young Softball player, but there were no videos 38 years ago. Fortunately, the library had a few books and we had an outstanding Coach. I will be sharing these videos with the younger generation, to help them to improve❣️

I used Bombats in the 80s, which were very Heavy and made from dense metal. I almost was able to hit a HR in Colorado Springs during a tournament because of the altitude - LOL. Normally I was a line drive hitter while playing in the Air Force in Montana. Ray Dimarini’s bat technology and his hitting videos helped transform me into more of a power hitter in the mid 90s.

Do not be thinking about all this when you step up to the plate at your next game. Think about nothing and swing like it's your last time at bat in your life.
@CreamyShroom5 жыл бұрын
You practice all these things and make them routine so that you can do exactly what you said. You think during practice and you cleaer the mind and react during a game.

16:09, you were wide open, lead foot pointing directly at pitcher...lol...Just messin' with ya Ray :-) But I do get amused at hitting and pitching coaches teaching something one way and then doing something totally opposite :-)
@CreamyShroom5 жыл бұрын
That is actually still closed. His foot is closer to home plate than his back foot. Don't worry about where it is rotated, that isn't what he is talking about. He is saying do not take a step toward third base. THAT is an open foot or stance. Look at the video he shows of the other guy. He steps toward third base, opening his whole body up.
@jeffreylevyhe-him19593 жыл бұрын
@@CreamyShroom Maybe so, but he literally talks about not pointing your toe out starting at 15:26, and at 15:31 he specifically turns his toe. He didn't move his foot toward third, he just rotated it and said not to do that.
@km1974ish3 жыл бұрын
Did you guys even watch the video? He’s talking about striding closed to help your shoulders stay in so they don’t open up to quickly and lose power pulling off the ball. It’s common sense that your foot has to open towards the pitcher so your ankle doesn’t snap off when you swing. Quit being so nit picky it’s obvious what he’s talking about.

@ottosophia40953 жыл бұрын
this is good for beginners I guess but bottom line .. all you really gotta do is crush the ball. Crush it with the hips and snap the wrists while painfully waiting for the 🥎 to get to you lol
@chadrides914 Жыл бұрын
Honestly this may work with slow pitch softball but most of this is absolute opposite of what is taught for baseball.
@chrisgehrke9008 Жыл бұрын
That’s why it’s a “softball” video. I thought this, too, until I applied it. We rely on torque for bat speed and pitch speed to help generate pop, in baseball. In softball, you’re hitting cherry bombs, essentially, and you have to find other ways to generate power. A conventional baseball swing still works for contact, in slow pitch, but you have to have some serious upper body strength to clear the fence
