@@matt_pacheco_musicThere are definitely vocal samples off of the record being played here but they are singing and playing live in unison. I also think the keyboard players string sounds (the London Symphony Orchestra) are sampled from the record. I don't think it would have been possible to recreate this record live without the aid of playing some live samples. I mean no disrespect to the musicians and in reality the very fact that they were able to pull this off, with the technology in 1992, is a testament to how good these musicians are. The talent here is supreme.

@@mancuniancandidatem yeah you're on to something. I've been following PMG since '87 and I can't see how you produce this live without the obvious orchestral and vocal patches. No disrespect, this is a real complex piece, and why I love PMG but don't let your eyes deceive you. RIP Mark & Lyle.

Saw this performance in the summer of 1993. My wife hated this particular song..."The Yabbadabbadoo song". Then, whilst being performed at the Starlake Ampitheater, near Pittsburgh, our first-born daughter, all of 4 months old, laughed out-loud for the very first time during the yabba dabbas and my wife sang a different tune from that day forth. Been listening to the talent of Pat and Lyle since 1976 and never tire of hearing any of their pieces for the thousandth time. Music for the heart, mind and soul. Miss you, Lyle.

Love this composition. I’m a retired middle school Art teacher in south Arkansas and always wanted to see if it what this might inspire. I took the conventional road and didn’t do it. This is good old boy football, hunting and C&W music country. I regret my easy way towing the line.

Secret Story is a masterpiece and very special set. I will say that From This Place has become a set in similar genre. It is from a different 'place' in Pat's life, but is one of his many sojourn of the musical journey he offers us. Been following and looking forward to where the next chapter leads to. This whole set is a beautiful part of the story. Peace

I had the privilege of seeing this show when PM played Houston in the old Music Hall, which was November 1992. Twenty eight years later and I can still clearly state it is one of the best concerts I've ever attended. The video doesn't quite give justice to the light show and music combination on this song.

This concert tour was INCREDIBLE! I am very, very fortunate in that I got to attend Secret Story, We Live Here, Imaginary Day, and Letter From Home. I hate to say this, but I have not purchased much Pat music lately. He has changed his ways, and I wish he would go back to what made him famous and what made him win so many Grammy awards. This particular song, Finding and Believing, is so moving and so incredible. Nobody in the world could pull this off except for Pat. My gosh I could listen to this all day.

David Lawrence Okay, will do! I’ll finish up breakfast and then go check-in with iTunes. I hope it’s great--I miss the 80s and 90s PMG stuff so much! I wonder how old Pat is now? And I wonder if he’s changed any of his well-known stuff for concerts, like wearing blue jeans and the black and white horizontal striped shirt? And Earth Wind & Fire playing “That’s The Way of the World” which lets us know that he’s about to come out? Every concert I’ve ever been to with PMG (including all friends who have gone as well as internet reports), there is music playing over the speakers in the concert area. But when “TTWofW” comes on by EW&F, that’s when I get butterflies in my stomach and I know I’m about to get goosebumps!

I saw this concert at the Paramount Theater in Seattle, always a great show from PMG. At the beginning of the concert when the band walked out on the stage, someone yelled "Where's Lyle?" Pat didn't respond, he picked up his guitar and started playing. It was still a fantastic concert even without Lyle. That was the only PMG concert I'd seen that didn't feature Lyle in the lineup. I've never attended a PMG concert that wasn't excellent no matter who was playing in the band.

I saw this show in Sept 1993 at the Roxy theatre in Atlanta. Fabulous. The air conditioning quit just as the show began. So the venue opened all the exit door to try and get a cross current. Atlanta in September, am I right? My then gf was sensitive to heat, and was threatening to have to leave. Also, I was illegally parked behind the building and worried there would be no car there after the show. I remember the temp started to regulate about the time they played this song, and she was better. After the show we rushed out back to find the car before APD did, and lo, it was still there. As I turned on my lights, I lit up the back of the building and saw Pat's unmistakable hair backlit. I said, "I'm not missing this chance." For the next few minites we hung out behind the venue and met Pat, Ledford, Wertico, And Gil Goldstein. The thrill of a lifetime. I just wish I could have met @SteveRodby and @DavidBlamires.

One of the most incredible songs ever written. First time I heard this (live version), Pat's solos at the end (after Jim Beard's piano solo/second round of vocals) blew my mind... two or three times, when it seems he's winding down, he moves to a "higher level". How does Pat write in these vocals? With any instrument, the notes, timing, and "mood" are defined - notes can be written for vocals, but how does he get the singer to make the sound? (say "do it like this".. and knock out a couple bars of the sound he wants?). Pat Metheny uses instruments to 'form lyrics' and voices to form instruments.

Well, that’s just not fair. Why does Pat Methany get 29 different notes to create with, while all of us mere mortals only have twelve? 🧐 And don’t get me started on time sigs and rhythms! It takes some amazing and intelligent musicians to bring his brilliance to our ears - we can only hope what’s being produced comes close to what he’s hearing in his head! (But if I ever get ahold of the middleman who sold adverts for the MIDDLE of one of his songs…)
