"Still Life (talking)" came out half-way through my freshman year of college (music school) and my friends and I listened to it at least once a day for a very long time. It's still one of my all-time favorite albums, and these two tunes are part of the reason for that.

I listened to this disk pretty much every morning with great coffee and bong hits and my cats. I always think the stuff with Lyle is more telepathic and transparent and I was lucky to see them at Sunken Garden for a great show. I love this music.

Some of my earliest musical memories are of Pat and this song in particular. Some time ago when I was just 10 years old I stood in line for 2 hours at the Newport Jazz Festival to meet Pat. He had a look of shock, amazement, and happiness on his face when 10 year old me told him how much I truly loved his music, looked up to him and that I wanted to play jazz. He’s the coolest cat around.

In the early 70s Pat went to the University of Miami School of music. Two of his classmates were Steve Morse and Jaco Pastorius. Pat remains one of my favorite jazz guitarists and as mentioned below, his ability to compose complex pieces is amazing. He has a crisp, clean sound and I enjoy the way he uses excellent percussion musicians (with unique instruments). Something you rarely hear any longer.
