This Mario hack took 12 YEARS to Make!
🎮 Mario Adventure 3 is a rom hack of Super Mario Bros. 3 that adds:
Day and night system, weather effects, item shop, exploration, hidden collectibles, 4 brand new power-ups and expansions of 4 returning power-ups, new graphics effects including weather, new debris types, and displaying more colors than the NES can normally handle
And yes, this runs on real NES hardware!

As someone who has worked for almost 2 years on a Pokémon Yellow romhack: it's a long time, but not so crazy. If the original code wasn't fully labeled, if the author was working alone on the project, if they also had a full-time job and other obligations, if they needed to learn how to make new music and/or pixel art, if they needed to learn a new coding language, if they had some struggles along the way, if they lost motivation temporarily... 12 years can pass before you realize it.
