Motorola APX family of radios can be programmed using Bluetooth! Im here to show you how to program your radio (mine is an APX8000) using this method on Windows 10. Step by step, I show you how to pair your two way radio, and then set up BT in the CPS. This method should work for all APX two way radios.
Step by step, I show you how to pair your two way radio, and then set up BT in the CPS. This method should work for all APX two way radios.
Some things to note: your APX must have bluetooth enabled via the flashcode, and obviously, the module in the radio. The flashcode option is QA00583. Oh, yeah, your computer must have bluetooth capabilities as well...
To get this going, here are the steps needed. :
1. Fire up APX CPS
2. Fire up your APX radio, and make sure BT is turned on within the radio, and it's "visible" (use the menu on the radio)
3. Open your W10 settings and enter the Devices section.
4. Add a Bluetooth Device
5. After the computer searches for and finds your APX, click on it from the list to initiate pairing
6. Verify the pin on computer and radio - hit accept on the radio first, then your computer
Once that's done, give the computer a minute to install whatever it needs to to finish drivers, etc.
7. After install is done, right click the BT icon on your taskbar, and select Join a Personal Area Network
8. Select your APX from the window, and then select Connect Using from the menu bar, and click Access Point
9. Make whatever codeplug changes if needed to your radio in CPS
10. In CPS under the Device menu option, select Bluetooth from the dropdown list for Communication Method
11. Click the Write Device button, and let it do it's thing
12. Profit!
Sometimes the IP address shown for BT in the CPS might not be correct - you will need to get the IP address from your radio, and input it there. 9/10 times the radio/computer will coordinate efforts and auto-assign the IP there in CPS and you won't need to mess with it.
